Club Bulletin - Issue 10 Monday 7 October 2013 There is so much planned and happening at present, must be the warmer weather! At our last meeting we bid a sad farewell, for now, to Michael Young who has submitted his resignation from the Club due to an extraordinary workload at present. Michael has been a wonderful member of the Club even before he was officially inducted. He attended meetings into the leadup to his participation as a team member with the GSE Team that went to Russia. Our September fundraiser Streets of Gold was his brainchild. Thank you Michael for all your efforts for Rotary I know this decision was not an easy one for you to make. Speaking of Streets of Gold an amount of $5600.90 has been banked for this year. A great effort by all club members. Add to this the money Club members, and their businesses donated to enable us to purchase the Money Spinner so we should be proud of our efforts. At the Board meeting last week a whole lot of business was discussed. With Streets of Gold over for this year we decided that we would provide $2000 to KBULG so they can reroof the two existing hot houses and $500 to Veils of Gold to assist to enable them to stage their show extravaganza for seniors. Cheque presentations will take place at our meeting on Monday 14 October. At that meeting we will be participating in Hat Day for Mental Health. So wear your most beautiful or wackiest hat to the meeting. Prizes might be available. Our next event is the Battle of the Brains Quiz Night on 18 October. At the meeting we will be asking members to put their names against specific tasks. So don't sit back put your hand up and be involved. The letters to sponsors are all ready to be delivered. Contact Lloyd for information and copies of the letters to take to businesses. Don't forget funds raised will go to Kalgoorlie PCYC, Kathleen Day Playgroup and other local and international Rotary Projects. To assist with your planning for the remainder of the year I ask that you check the club calendar in the Bulletin for forthcoming events and activities. 16 December will be our final meeting for 2013. On the night we will invite supporters of the club to come along to the meeting so we can thank them for their support. The meeting will, naturally, have a Christmas theme - so watch this space! The Club will have a break over Christmas and New Year returning for our first meeting in 2014 on Monday 13 January. District Conference is in Mandurah on 21 -23 March 2014. It would be great if a group of us could attend. District Conference is a way of learning more about Rotary, catching up with Rotary friends from around the District and hearing some wonderful Guest Speakers. Information will be relayed to members at each meeting hopefully, to encourage a number of us to attend. Enjoy the rest of your week while you Engage Rotary, Change Lives. Club Bulletin - Issue 10 Monday 7 October 2013

There is so much planned and happening at present, must be the warmer weather!

Have a great weekend!

THE CONCEPT OF VOCATIONAL SERVICE

The Object of Rotary is a philosophical statement of Rotary’s purpose and the responsibilities of Rotarians. The concept of vocational service is rooted in the

Second Object, which calls on Rotarians to “encourage and foster”:

High ethical standards in business and professions

The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations

The dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society

As a Rotarian, how can you put these ideals into action? Consider these suggestions:

Talk about your vocation in your club, and take time to learn about fellow members’ vocations

Use your professional skills to serve the community

Practice your profession with integrity, and inspire others to behave ethically through your own words and actions

Help a young person achieve his or her career aspirations

Guide and encourage others in their professional development

If you do any of these things, you are performing vocational service. And if vocational service motivates and energises you, then you’re in the right place, because vocational service is the very essence of Rotary. It is what sets Rotary

apart from other service organisations.
