President Esther
It was a special meeting on Monday night as we presented Four Way Test plaques to three members of the Club. As part of our membership retention plan the Club presents a specially made Four Way Test plaque to new members on the 12 month anniversary of being a member of the Club. Edward Brennan and Cherie Wallace were presented with their plaques.
Whilst the Board was planning the presentation of plaques it was decided that on the anniversary of all members becoming Rotarians we would present them with a plaque as well. Lloyd Morley was also presented with his plaque on the night.
It was the last meeting for Edward before he leaves us to work in Gladstone. Lloyd advised us also that he is leaving Kalgoorlie-Boulder after 10 years. He will be in Perth for a time before relocating to Kununurra.
Our Guest Speaker was Norm Baker the Acting CEO for the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission. He gave us an interesting overview of what’s happening within the organisation.
This week our Guest Speaker will be Helen Ducey, Engagement and Transition Manager, Goldfields Education Region. Helen will be talking with us about the forthcoming Career Breakfasts.
Sunday 25 May is the District Assembly. All Directors are expected to attend and any members of the club who would like to come along are encouraged to. The day starts at 11am and finishes at 5pm. The venue has not yet been finalised. Hopefully, I can confirm on Monday night.
Thank you to the members who assisted with the Retravision Sausage Sizzle and the Mothers Day Classic Sausage Sizzle. The weather was beautiful and a great opportunity to socialise both with other members of the club and the community.
Quiz Night is fast approaching. The focus for members is approaching businesses and collecting prizes for the night. It is shaping up to be a great fun filled night. Members should encourage friends and colleagues to come along and enjoy a night out.
A nomination for membership has been received from Roger McDonald If you have any objection to Roger becoming a member please contact me direct. Roger McDonald is the CEO and Founder of Champion Life Coaching Australia, an organisation committed to creating positive transformation in the lives of individuals, groups and communities on a local and national level.
Roger has almost two decades experience working in the human services sector both in Australia and Internationally. Prior to starting Champion Life Coaching Australia Roger worked in State Government as a Public Servant.
Danny has offered to be our host for our next Vocational meeting. This is to take place at the Kalgoorlie Police Station on Monday 9 June.
Enjoy the rest of your week whilst you Engage Rotary, Change Lives.

A short history of The Rotary Foundation
In 1917, RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed that an endowment be set up “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, when the endowment fund had grown to more than US$5,000, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International. Five Trustees, including Klumph, were appointed to “hold, invest, manage, and administer all of its property . . . as a single trust, for the furtherance of the purposes of RI.” Two years later, the Foundation made its first grant of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. The organization, created by Rotarian Edgar F. “Daddy” Allen, later grew into the Easter Seals.
The Great Depression and World War II both impeded the Foundation’s growth, but the need for lasting world peace generated great postwar interest in its development. After Rotary’s founder, Paul P. Harris, died in 1947, contributions began pouring into Rotary International, and the Paul Harris Memorial Fund was created to build the Foundation.
That year, the first Foundation program – the forerunner of Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships – was established. In 1965-66, three new programs were launched: Group Study Exchange, Awards for Technical Training, and Grants for Activities in Keeping with the Objective of The Rotary Foundation, which was later called Matching Grants.
The Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Grants program was launched in 1978, and Rotary Volunteers was created as a part of that program in 1980. PolioPlus was announced in 1984-85, and the next year brought Rotary Grants for University Teachers. The first peace forums were held in 1987-88, leading to the Foundation's peace and conflict studies programs.
Throughout this time, support of the Foundation grew tremendously. Since the first donation of $26.50 in 1917, it has received contributions totaling more than $1 billion. More than $70 million was donated in 2003-04 alone. To date, more than one million individuals have been recognized as Paul Harris Fellows – people who have given US$1,000 to the Annual Programs Fund or have had that amount contributed in their name.
Such strong support, along with Rotarian involvement worldwide, ensures a secure future for The Rotary Foundation as it continues its vital work for international understanding and world peace.
