Hi Everyone

Felix and I have arrived back in Arusha after another amazing trip to Australia spreading the word about St Jude's. It was great to catch up with so many of you. If you missed us while we were in Australia, Kim is still speaking at a range of events. See our website for details at http://www.schoolofstjude.org/about-us/calendar.html

We are so thrilled to finally reach this milestone. Make sure you stay in touch during this exciting time by keeping an eye on our newsletter and on our social media pages for regular updates as the graduation unfolds. Following the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal last Saturday our thoughts are with our local Nepalese partners, colleagues and all of those affected by the tragedy, including those in Australia.

We were relieved to hear from Nepalese surgeon and one of our key local partners, Dr Shankar Rai, that he and his team were not harmed in the earthquake, and that both of the hospitals that they work in are not damaged. However, they have reported that they are overwhelmed with huge numbers of trauma patients from the earthquake.

We have extended the offer of Interplast's assistance to them directly, and to other local and international partners. Over coming weeks and months as the immediate humanitarian response transitions into recovery, there will be ongoing need for support in reconstructive surgery. Interplast is ready to help where our local partners request us to.

Interplast has been working in Nepal since 2006 with a comprehensive training program that includes Nepalese surgeons, nurses and allied health professionals. Our aim is to improve access to quality reconstructive surgery and follow-up rehabilitative services by providing programs focused on building the capacity of local health care providers.

Quote of the Week

“Our success or failure will not depend

upon the machinery of Rotary or its

physical growth, but upon the extent to

which Rotary’s ideals or objectives are

translated into positive, tangible

results in personal, business,

community, and international life. We

shall be known by our work .”
