A Sheet will be sent around during the meeting on Monday night for members to indicate if they can assist. Monday 23 June John Wibberley, ABC Goldfields-Esperance Station Manager and Breakfast Announcer (and I think there is also more to his title these days as well) will be our Guest Speaker. There are some exciting Guest Speakers in the pipeline for future meetings. If you are aware of anyone who would be a good Guest Speaker or anyone visiting the City who would be a good Guest Speaker please let Angelo or I know. Monday 30 June there will be no meeting as we will be joining the Rotary Club of Boulder for a joint meeting on Tuesday 1 July with the students on club to club exchange from Texas. Saturday and Sunday 5 & 6 July KidsFest is taking place. Time to release your inner child and have some fun. Friday 25 July will be our Changeover. As it is 25 July the theme will be Christmas in July. So expect some fun and frivolity on the night. Saturday 26 July is the Annual KBULG Tree Planting Day. Could be interesting after Changeover! President Esther

What a great night for the Battle of the Brains Quiz Night. We had a final total of 31 tables with all enjoying a wonderful night of Quiz, competitions, Jigsaw and laughs. Thank you to John Bowler our Quiz Master and Maryanne Bowler who marked all the answer sheets. A mammoth task that she did with ease.

Businesses were again very generous in providing prizes for us for the night. Then to the Rotarians who were able to assist in the lead up to and during the night. Thank you so much for your efforts. The night could not have been as successful as it was without you all pulling together.

I should have the final tally for Monday night's meeting. Billy is still waiting for some more deposits to be made so he can finalise the amount raised.

This was followed by our Vocational visit to the Kalgoorlie Police Station Monday night. This was very interesting for members as most had not even stepped foot inside the station prior to Monday night. Thank you Danny for being our host for the night.

Monday night was the last meeting at our club for Lloyd Morley. He is leaving Kalgoorlie and going to Perth for a short time and then heading to the bright lights of Kununurra. Lloyd has been a member of the Club since 2005 and has made a wonderful contribution to the Club during that time. He will be missed by us all, if only for his wicked sense of humour!

Saturday 14 June will see any members who are available meeting in front of the Commonwealth Bank at 10am to walk over the site for the inaugural Kalgoorlie Rotary Food Discovery that will be held during Race Round. Cherie is going to be coordinating this event and will have more information for us on Monday night so we can start planning.

Wednesday 18 June at 5.30 is the first Pre Event meeting for Goldfields KidsFest. Boulder Club will be joining our members to assist with an activity over the two days of the event. A sheet has been going around meetings for people to indicate when they will be available to assist.

Saturday 21 June Retravision Sausage Sizzle. Yes, our next sausage sizzle is coming up.

Enjoy the rest of your week whilst you Engage Rotary, Change Lives.

Rotary Club of Kalgoorlie

ROTARY GLOBAL HISTORY FELLOWSHIP The spirit of the early days of Rotary has frequently been described as selfish. There were certainly many indications to justify the description. The literature of the period, most of which was the work of Paul, emphasized the business advantage of membership.

Prospective members were frequently appealed to directly on the basis of business gain. But even here is a distinction, subtle though it may seem. The prevailing thought was to give-not to receive. Giving was more reconcilable with the other thing that went along with it-friendship.

The net result was that those who came into the club for the sole purpose of getting as much as they could out of it were disappointed and dropped out.

It is true that some actually have realized substantial business benefits from their membership in Rotary, but that may be said of the members of almost any other club. Many have realized no business benefits whatever, and the one class is as well satisfied as the other. Viewed from a financial standpoint Rotary has been a liability to Paul, not an asset.

Few would contend that the spirit of the Rotary of today is selfish. No more was it selfish in the first year of the movement. The lure of Rotary has ever been the friendships that have been found there. By none has friendship been more highly valued than by the first group who gathered together in the year of our Lord, 1905."
