....... ... Late last year the Australian Building Codes Board agreed to implement a national test forimpurities in new toughened glass panes by heat soaking them. This latest achievement will helpstop impure panes of new toughened glass being fitted in tall buildings where sufficient protectionfrom falling glass, such as balconies or awnings, is not provided.
From 1 May, a new test for new high-rise glass window panes will be phased in over a 12-monthperiod to allow industry to adjust.
Mr Hinchliffe said from May 1 the AustralianB uilding Code would be amended toinclude the new test provisions . The test,for glass in all windows more than 5m above flooror ground level, will become mandatory inMay 2011. ......

In the past glass was mainly utilized for windows to allowsome air and light in to rooms.Today glass is utilized in the construction of several elementsof exterior and interior architecture.Exterior glass architecture includes facades, display windows'skylights, skywalks, entrances, revolving doors, canopies,winter gardens and conservatories.
