Glass once toughened can break spontaneously withoutany warrant. This may be due to possible N iS content inraw glass. To reduce the probability (98%), glasses are

subjected to temperature of about 280 degrees for fewhours. It s a destructive testing method.

....... ... Late last year the Australian Building Codes Board agreed to implement a national test forimpurities in new toughened glass panes by heat soaking them. This latest achievement will helpstop impure panes of new toughened glass being fitted in tall buildings where sufficient protectionfrom falling glass, such as balconies or awnings, is not provided.

From 1 May, a new test for new high-rise glass window panes will be phased in over a 12-monthperiod to allow industry to adjust.

Mr Hinchliffe said from May 1 the AustralianB uilding Code would be amended toinclude the new test provisions . The test, for glass in all windows more than 5m above flooror ground level, will become mandatory inMay 2011. ......

    Bullet-Resistant Glass

Bullet resistant glass (colloquially known as bulletproof glass) is a type of strong but opticallytransparent glass shield that is particularly resistant

to being penetrated when struck by bullets. It is also known as transparent armour.Bullet resistant glass is usually manufactured usingpolycarbonate thermoplastic &layers of laminated glass
