Dear Members, Greetings, The Sugar Technologists Association of India success-fully organized its flagship event - 76th Annual Conven-tion and International Sugar Expo 2018 at the state-of-the-art Brilliant Convention Cen-tre, Indore, Madhya Pradesh from 20 – 22 August 2018 which was attended by nearly 800 delegates from India and abroad.
On behalf of the Council of The Sugar Technologists Asso-ciation of India, I express my most sincere gratitude to the members of the Association, delegates, sponsors, exhibitors & service providers for not only attending the Convention in large numbers but also making it a grand success and a memorable one .
The Indian sugar industry is set to close the season 2017-18 with the highest ever sugar production of 32.25 Million Tonnes.
As per advance estimates, India’s sugar output for the season 2018-19 is going to be record 35 MT. India is thus set to replace Brazil as the largest sugar producing coun-try.
The industry will commence the sugar season 2018-19 with a carry over stock of 10.5 MT. With an estimated sugar produc-tion of 35 MT in 2018-19, after meeting the domestic consump-tion of about 26 MT, there will be a huge surplus of 19.5 MT of sugar in the country. To mitigate the crisis, the Govt. of India has initiated several measures includ-ing incentivizing ethanol produc-tion and export of sugar. To boost the ethanol blending programme, the Govt. of India has recently increased the etha-nol procurement price as follows:
STAI has always been propogat-ing that for viable and sustain-able business, the industry should produce quality refined sugar both for the domestic and international markets and convert their units to integrated sugar complexes and utilize all the available resources like fibre, en-ergy, fertilizer, water and minerals aptly. I wish a successful sugarcane crushing season 2018-19 and advance greetings for the Dusherra and Dipawali to all our members.
