SACRED HEART OF JESUS
Encyclical ‘HAURIETIS AQUAS’- Pope Pius X11
‘You will drink water with joy from the fountains of the Savior”. These words with which the Prophet
Isaiah prefigured symbolically the abundant goods that the messianic era would bring with itself, they come
spontaneously to our minds, if we give a look to the one hundred years past, since our Predecessor, Pius IX, in answer
to the desires of the catholic world, ordered the universal Church to celebrate the feast day of the most Sacred Heart
of Jesus.
Innumerable are, in fact, the heavenly richness that the devotion tribute to the Sacred Heart infuses in
the souls: It purifies them, He fills them with supernatural consolations; and He moves them to gain all the virtues.
For this reason, taking in consideration Saint James’ words: “All perfect gift comes from above, from the Father of
lights”. We have a reason to consider in this devotion, already universal and each time more fervent, the invaluable
gift that the Incarnate Verb, our divine Savior and unique Mediator of the grace and the truth between the Heavenly
Father and the human race, has granted the Church, His mystical Spouse, in the course of the last centuries, in the
one in which She (the Church), has had to surpass or overcome so many difficulties and trials. Thanks to an incredible
gift, the Church can better and more manifest her love for her Divine Founder and fulfill with fidelity this exhortation,
that the Apostle St. John affirmed came from Jesus himself.
“In the great day of the feast, Jesus standing up said in a loud voice: “He, who is thirsty, come to me and
drink, he who believes in me.” As the Sacred Scripture says, “from His bosom rivers of live water would gush forth”
and this He said it about the Holy Spirit that would receive those who believe in Him.” Those ones who heard these
words of Jesus, with the promise of live water would come from their bosom , easily they related these prophesies
of Isaiah, Ezequiel and Zachariah , in these prophesies they referred to the Messiah’s kingdom, and also with the
symbolic rock from which, being hit by Mosses miraculously water gushed forth.
Divine charity has its first origin in the Holy Spirit, who is the Personal Love from the Father and the Son, in
the bosom of the Most Holy Trinity. With all reason, Saint Paul, as making himself echo of Jesus Christ’s words,
believes that the Spirit of Love infuses the charity in the souls of the believers: “This love of God has been spread in
our hearts by the Holy spirit that has been given to us.
There exists between the Holy Spirit, who is essentially LOVE, the divine charity that should be inflamed
each time more in the soul of the faithful, it reveals to all in an admirable way, venerable brethren, the intimate
nature of the devotion that must be given to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
It is manifested that this devotion, if we consider its nature, is the act of religion for Excellency. It is a full
and absolute will of giving oneself totally and consecrating to the love of the Divine Redeemer, which more vivid
signal and symbol is, His pierced Heart. In the same way, it is clear and in a most profound sense that this devotion
asks before anything else, that our love correspond to the divine Love, because only by charity the human heart will
live totally under the motions of the Holy Spirit doing the divine Will, in such a way that a person who lives like this,
almost becomes one thing with that divine Will, as it is written: “Whoever clings to the Lord becomes one spirit with
Him.

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
In our first reading today from the book of Exodus, we read about Moses’
encounter with God on a mountain. In scripture, mountains are a place where God
encounters His people and where people encounter God. Although God already
knows how “stiffed-necked” His people can be, He still comes near to them and
walks with them. God making Himself available in this way shows us how God
desires to be with His people, despite their stubbornness.
Today’s second reading gives us a guide on how we can encounter the
Lord and allow Him to walk with us. St. Paul tells the Corinthians to change their
ways, encourage one another, and live in peace. While we may not have to
physically climb a mountain to encounter God, we have mountains in our everyday
lives. Here, the Lord gives us the opportunity to grow in patience, charity, humility,
etc. These mountains can be a person at work or school, who challenges us to be
charitable, or our spouses, children, or siblings, who challenge our patience. All
these challenges are opportunities to change our ways, encourage one another, and
live in peace. It is a chance to climb the mountain and encounter the living God. This
is because we are reflecting who God is, a patient, loving, and merciful Father that
walks with His children on their journey through life.
Today’s gospel reflects this love God the Father has for us as He sent His
only Son to bring us back to Him. It is on the mountain of Calvary where God
encounters His people most fully. Through His Son, we have the ability to encounter
God through Jesus Christ who gave Himself completely out of love for us. Jesus, out
of love, saves us and secures what we lost. However, because of our sinfulness we
sometimes want to find this security in ourselves or in worldly things such as money,
pleasures, honor, etc. But we have to remember that all these things pass away, but
God never does.
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity celebrates the family of three
Persons in one God, who live in total communion with one another. Just like the
Trinity, we are called to live in communion with and for one another. Today, let us
pray that we may be images of the Most Holy Trinity by constantly giving ourselves
to one another out of total love. Likewise, let us pray that this week the Holy Spirit
may give us the grace to encounter God in our daily mountains and so be able to
share the love, peace, and joy we have received from Him.
--Charles Silvas
Please welcome Charles silvas!
We would like for you all to extend a warm
welcome to Charles Silvas. He is a seminarian
for the Diocese of Corpus Christi and will be
staying with us here at St. Martin for the
summer. He will be helping our office staff
and Fr. Naul in whatever way he can. He will
be in our office Tuesday – Friday during
regular business hours and will be helping out
during weekend services. So stop in if you
have a chance and say hello. If there are any
young people who are considering a vocation
here is your chance to come in and talk to
someone about your interest.
EXPLORE RETREAT
June 26, 2017 - June 30, 2017
Camp Aranzazu – Rockport, TX EXPLORE is a summer experience for young men who want to understand their faith better, know themselves better, have fun, and make new friends from all over
the diocese.
EXPLORE is for young men who are enrolled in high school or who will be enrolling this fall, as well as recent high school graduates.
EXPLORE often helps a young man discern his God given vocation. In a society that does not seem to understand how someone could accept a vocation to the
priesthood, it helps him to meet others who would like to know more and also those who have been in priestly formation. However, EXPLORE is not just all talks or
prayer, but also a lot of fun! The facilities at Camp Aranzazu include sports facilities, swimming pool, zip line, and much more!
COST: $50.00
For more information please call the Office of Vocations at 361-334-2781 or see Seminarian Charles Silvas in the St. Martin’s Parish Office.
