The sea state provided a fine ride for those who could steer it and on Rapid we watched the jumbos while the boat speed record was set higher and higher again. Yes it was wet and uncomfortable but gosh.. what a race to remember. I think we'll be talking about the "wet Lincoln" for a long time. Obviously such a proposal would involve boat by boat handicap adjustments in order to provide a balanced fleet. If you have any thoughts on this or if such a proposal may perhaps tempt you to participate in a short handed series which includes such allowances could you please let Jess or myself know as REX will be considering this proposal in the near future and we welcome your input. Our recent Combined Twilight race was a highlight of the twilight season and a great opportunity for members of both clubs to mix and mingle. I also attended a Captain’s Table dinner this past month, a night hosted by our flag officers where Association representatives meet our new CYCSA members. Some new club members have indicated an interest in learning to race but would love a helping hand so if you are a knowledgeable sailor with some time to contribute (either via a chat on the patio or perhaps even time out on the water) I'd love to put you in touch with some skippers and crews who would welcome your skills as they seek to learn about racing at our club. On a burning hot morning with no breeze on Friday 4th Feb, we weighed Nellie Myra,

Freelance, Take 5 and Naughty Black Shorts. We had an early start due to the 0620

2.4 high tide dropping to 0.18 at 1240. The crane arrived at RSAYS 0615 and departed

1115—the last boat weighed had only 0.2 under the keel when it was put back in the

water. Since then, the measuring has been completed and certificates received from

Nellie Myra, Take 5 and Naughty Black Shorts.

Another weighing Day is planned for April / May—Marnico, G-Wizz and Garry Tucker’s

new Beneteau 45 are already booked in.

If you are interested in having your boat weighed, please ring William Strangways on

8296 3756, or contact Jess in the Race Office on 8248 4222.

FEBRUARY 2011

Hello from the Race Office! It is the beginning of March already, and Lincoln is yet again a thing of the past! I hope all who participated in the

Adelaide to Port Lincoln Bluewater Classic and the Lexus Lincoln Week Regatta had a great time and

managed to get back to the CYCSA safely!

I was fortunate to make my first ever trek to Lincoln this year and believe it or not, I even managed to make it out

for my first ever race! Thanks to Keith, Sandy, Annie and the rest of the ‘Rapid 1’ crew for having me on board for

the first two races of the Regatta. I had a great time, and hope to get out for a sail more often!

With Lincoln out of the way, we have a month of Twilights left before we kiss goodbye to daylight savings - stay

tuned for more info on the extra Ladies Helm Twilight! There are also a few big weekends to look forward to - the

Vicsail Beneteau Regatta will be held at the CYCSA on Sunday the 27 March, followed by the

Great Southern Regatta and the J24 Class State Champs over the weekend of the 2 & 3 April.

Don’t forget to check the website for the NoR and get your entries in!

April will see in the end of the Summer Racing Season - don’t forget to pop the following dates into your diaries:

AUSTRALIA DAY TWILIGHT

1st Vertigo - Jamie Goode

2nd Matador - Mike Draper

3rd Liberator - Geoff Catt

On 26th January, the Racing Association held a special, standalone, early start Australia Day Twilight Race. It was excellent to see

lots of Racing Members get involved in the day, with 20 starters in the race. It was perfect weather for a great race with winds of about

15knts and calm, flat seas. After the race there was a BBQ, with Canegrass providing lamb packs for sale to the hungry sailors. The BBQ area

was packed with people who stayed for the festivities following the race, creating a great vibe. Many people stayed until well after sundown,

playing Pétanque on the lawns overlooking the Marina. It was a hugely successful event, thanks to all who made it possible.
