rESuLtS frOM PubLiC POLiCy WOrkSHOPS:Four workshops were held in August 2010 to listen to residents’ opinions on how the future County park and trail system should be developed and operated. Roughly 150 people participated. The questions were used to stimulate more robust conversations between participants about their values and priorities for parks and trails. The following are highlights from the discussions: • Quality and type of amenities should vary at each park, and fit with the
site’s natural resources and unique landscape.• Build facilities that generate revenue.• Only build what we’re able to maintain.• Park users should be the primary payers for them. • Trails should be built alongside development, rather than being developed
separately.• Each park should be developed with an initial phase to allow use of park
today.• Future generations should have the opportunity to develop portions of the
parks.• Parks and trails can help to build a vibrant community.
PubLiC idEAS On fACiLitiES And AMEnitiES• Keep a natural, rustic look and feel• Focus on natural resource preservation• Trails – offer hiking, biking, horse-back• Nature interpretation and wildlife observation• Re-use house as Pioneer living example• Camping, canoeing, fishing• Picnics• Weddings and events
