Logo Clothing
Caps are $15 and polo shirts are $20. We now
have long sleeve Tee shirts.
A few weeks ago I asked for volunteers to help with
the St. James garden as a way to pay back the
church for the use of their facility for zero cost to us.
On May 17th Earth Care (Mr. Donald Kuhn) and his
crew took out the sod and tilled the plot and his crew
& the club volunteers helped each other. Earth Care
did a great job and should be commended for their
work. But only 3 out of 150+ members volunteered
to help. Rich Rossio, Carl Shaffer and myself.
That’s unfortunate…
Pastor David and Lisa
Mirabella, program
coordinator, were very
happy as are 11 fami-
lies who are benefitting
from this program.
The volunteers spent a
few hours moving sod,
spreading compost,
sand, and mulch. The
payoff is gratitude in
giving and fulfilling our
agreement to St. James. I strongly urge you to
volunteer when asked. As the famous line goes:
“Ask not what your club can do for you, but what
can you do for your club”.

May Door Prizes
Secretary’s Report
Board Meeting – June 5, 2017 Peter D’Attomo called the meeting to or-der at 7:00 p.m. Present were Mike Kalscheur, Rich Rossio, Laura Rossio, Bruce Kinney, Lee Nye, Bert LeLoup, Whit Anderson, Will Richards, Eleanore Richards, Tony Evansky, Jack Pine, and Jerry Johnson. Reminder: Any club mem-ber is invited to attend board meetings.
The May minutes and treasurer’s report were approved. Committee Reports Membership –There were no new members added in May so the membership remains at 156. A question was raised about the date for reduced dues and how that would tie into the seller’s fee at the Auction. After some discussion Jerry provided a clarification saying that the dues are $25 through June 30.On July 1 they drop to one- half rounded to $13. The individual must be on the roster as of June 30. Individu-als that join on July 1 or later need to pay the auction seller’s fee. The ten percent seller’s fee applies to all non-members. Prizes – Bruce reported he has acquired door prizes for meetings through September. Newsletter – The deadline for submitting material to Bert is Saturday June 10. It was noted that Rockler has opened two new stores in our area. This raised the question of whether they should receive a copy of the newsletter. It was affirmed that any business that offers the club members a discount should receive a copy and they have a choice of email or “snail” mail. (Reference: May, 2015 board minutes.) Activities – Rich has plans for a Jack Harkins shop tour on June 17 from 9:00 to noon... He also is arranging a rabbet plane making workshop to be led by Chris Yonkers – tenta-tive date July 22. Programs – June’s program will be Milan Huba from DeWalt. July is the auction. Web Site – Whit reported on the progress to date and the site is operational with many improvements. While the work is not done the results thus far can be used and hold the promise of making the site more useful. He and Jim Harvey received a fine round of applause. He will give a short presentation to the June general meeting to acquaint the members with the new site and capabilities. Old Business -The church’s need for help with a garden was satisfied and completed.
-The video equipment update has been completed. -The greeter trial will be continued and temporarily staffed by Bruce and Rich. -Peter has submitted facility reservation requests through next June. -The auction day schedule will be 7:30 set up; 8:00 sign in; 9:00 start auction; 1:00 pm out of the build-ing. -Reminder: July board meeting is on the 10
th.
New Business -Auction contacts with other clubs will be: Lee: Fox Valley; Rich: Hickory Hills and Illiana; Peter: Windy City, Chicago Woodturners, and the church. -We have still been unable to recruit a leader for the Toy committee. There was some concern that the enthusiasm for the program has waned both on the part of the woodworkers and the recipients. There were a number of potential alternatives that surfaced during the discussion but not any that generated enough interest to be put to a vote. The item was tabled for more future discussion. Adjourned 7:55 p.m. Jerry Johnson, Secretary
Rich Rossio

Now is the time to start taking stock of what you have collecting dust and polish it up for sale to generate cash to buy something new. When you have items that you know you will be offering at the auction, please send me a brief description of the most desirable ones and I’ll men-tion them in the next Newsletter. The more attractive items we can identify in advance, the more bidders will attend. The annual action will be held at St James the Apostle Church, 480 S.
