The senses are extremely heightened, with
oversensitivity to all external impressions.
Stimulants cannot tolerate any suffering or pain;
they will do anything to get rid of the pain. This is
why paresthesia is one of the common physical
symptoms. The strategy is to deny recognition
to the suffering part. They want most of all to
flee from whatever touches their feelings or
whatever can force them to confront their inner
feelings.
Heightened senses cause rapid activation of the
adrenergic system, which produces palpitations,
sweating, and a general feeling of arousal.
Their over activity is fruitful and efficient (unlike
the spider remedies). They really are productive,
achieve good results, and they usually work
alone. They are compulsive high achievers; they
do too many things and produce too much, as if
nothing else on earth matters. They produce
more than their strength permits.
There is an underlying deep lack of
confidence that is hardly noticeable because
they function so well and give their all. Being
workaholic is clearly a strategy to avoid deep
depression, which would inevitably come
about with- out such over activity. When
these people have no opportunity to be
productive, they can lose the will to live.
Since they compulsively overexert their brain,
they are unable to take a break or sleep. This is
like children who cannot sleep but nevertheless
do not disturb their parents. They play in such a
serious way, as if they were working because
they need and want to be creative.
These are almost a normal part of
the pathology of the stimulants,
often found in extremely successful
and dominant people who are at
the top of the hierarchy. A typical
complaint might be: "I've achieved so much and
made so many big speeches but now, all of a
sudden, I can't do it anymore!" The over-controlled
situation that is covered up is a typical feature and
is often the first sign of a serious burn-out.
These people usually decompensate around
the age of 40 to 45. Even though they
repeatedly fall ill at this age, it does not occur
to them to take a break. The very idea of not
working is unthinkable for them. There is always
a latent tendency to go flat out, to “put the
metal to the floor”. When they
have finally reached the point
of exhaustion, they still push
themselves even harder, with
stimulants.
The normal ingestion of food does not give them
enough energy: they need something extra in
order to get into gear, a special energy kick.
Stimulants are such a part of their daily lives that
they forget to mention that they
habitually drink 10 cups of coffee
a day. They become extremely
dependent on stimulating
substances, surrendering their
power to these drugs.
Congestive headaches and a feeling of
fullness in the head are frequently an
expression of "too much", too many thoughts,
like an engine that cannot stop running. They
do not permit themselves any relaxation, yet
the headaches force them into it. This makes it
socially acceptable for them to take a break
from their work.
Beyond the sensation of fullness, the headache
is perceived as a threat to the strongest
weapon in their survival strategy: their intellect.
For these highly intelligent, brilliant, and super-
creative stimulant people, the very idea that
their brains might be malfunctioning is a truly
appalling thought: "Oh my god, I'm turning into
a zombie!
Inner shivering belongs to the common
physical symptoms, often accompanied by
pain and suffering.
