o 2nd Call – Within 1-3 weekso 3rd Call – Within 4-7 Weekso 4th Call – Within 8-12 weeks

Prior to making the phone call, pray over the get connected card and for the person you are calling. Ask Holy Spirit to give you the wisdom to minister during the phone call. Remove Distraction:

o For example, you don’t need to be eating, chewing gum, or typing. Call from a quiet place wherever possible, not somewhere with lots of conversations or noise happening. Do whatever you can to help your contact hear you and know that they have your focused attention

Review the guest get connected card and check for these things:o When they attendedo If they selected any of the options on the back of the Get

connected card: My Decision today:

- First time decision- Recommitment- Baptism in Holy Spirit

Tell Me more About- Get On- GC Groups- I would like to speak with a Fresh Start team

member- I want to be water baptized

o Knowing this information will better prepare you for the conversation, help you to get to know the guest more, and show you what the guest may be needing or wanting to know about for their next step here at Generations.

Smile & Speak Clearlyo Before you pick up the phone, smile! You can’t see

someone on the other end of the phone, but you can hear when someone is smiling as they talk to you

o Speak at a moderate pace, with enough volume to be heard, and speak your words clearly. Try not to mumble or turn away from the phone when speaking, or rush through sentences. Speak clearly with a pleasant tone of voice, to help your contact easily understand you

First Impressionso Remember that you may be the first and only persona

contact a person has had with our church. The first impression will stay with the contact long after the call is completed

Respect their time:o Always respect people’s time. At the beginning of the

conversation as, ‘Is this a good time for you to talk?’. If it isn’t, ask when a better time to talk is. Then leave a comment on the Get Connected card to remind you and call them back at that time instead.

Use their nameo Use the contact’s name during the call to help you

connect, and so that they know you care It’s pastoral, not a task!

o Remember that everyone you are calling is an individual who God loves and values. Treat them as you would want to be treated. Let them know the reason and purpose for your call. Do everything you can to create a relaxed phone conversation. Be sincere and attentive to their needs. Be sensitive to where they are at, listening not just to what they’re saying, but also what they are not saying. What is it that this person isn’t saying that is important to the conversation?

o Listen actively, not just passively. Ask them questions, and always be polite and empathetic. Be prepared to have a real conversation with them, and share about yourself as well.

Last Impressions:o Always end the call on an ‘up-note’, using their name and

telling the person how much you have enjoyed speaking with them and thanking them for their time. Remember that your last impression leaves a lasting impression

What to say during Calls:o Introduce yourself and that you are a staff member on the

Connection Team at GC: “Hi (name of contact), my name is (your name). I’m

part of the Connections Team here at Generations”o Confirm that you are speaking to the right person

“Am I speaking with (name of contact)? … Could I speak to (Name of contact) please?”

o Ask how they are and check that now is a good time for them to talk “How are you doing today? … Is now a good time for

you to talk for a couple of minutes?”o State the purpose of your call:

If new person: “I’m calling to invite you to…” / “I understand you’re new to our church, I am calling to see how you are doing. How are you settling in? Have you met some of our team?”

o Ask open-ended questions (Which need more than a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ Response) “So what brought you to church?” / “Did you come with

a friend?” / “How long have you lived in the area?” / “What do you do/study?”

o Always extend an invitation to sit with you at the experience? “Would you like to come and sit with me at the ___

ReferencesWhat we believe

The Bible – God wrote a book The Bible is God’s word to all people. It was written by

human authors under the supernatural guidance of The Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives (Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Psalms 119:11,89, 105; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 22:29; John 5:39; 16:13-15; 17:17; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews1:1-2;4:12; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 3:16)

God has existed in relationship with Himself for all eternity. He exists as one substance in three persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 61:1; Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 1:35; John 5:21-23; 14:10,16; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Hebrews 1:8-10; James 2:19)

The Father –God is great, God is Good God is great: He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present,

unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, holy. It is in Him that we live, move and exist. God is good: He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises. (Exodus 3:14; Numbers 23:19; Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2; Psalm 11:4-6; Malachi 3:6; John 3:16; 4:24; 5:26; 14:1; Acts 17:28; Romans3:3-4)

The Son – God Became Man Jesus Christ is completely human, but at the same time

completely God. He is the only plan for bringing people who are enemies of God back into a right relationship with God. He lives a perfect life, so that he could be a substitution for us in satisfying God’s demands for perfection. He defeated death in His resurrection so that we could have life. (Isaiah 7:14, 53; Matthew 1:18-23;3:17; 8:29; 14:33; 16:16; 28:5-6; Luke 22:70; 24:46-47; John 1:1, 14; 10:30; 11:25-27; 17:1-5; Acts 1:9; 2:22-24; 7:55-56; Romans 1:3-4; 3:23-26; 8:1-3; 10:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Galatians 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15; 2:9; 1; Timothy 2:5-6; 3:16)

The Holy Spirit His presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He

guides believers into all truths and exalts Christ. He convicts people of their sin, Gods righteousness, and the coming judgement. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, supernatural power, and makes us more like Christ. We also believe in the baptism of The Holy Spirit and that it is a gift from God. This is available to all believers and is received after the new birth. (Genesis 1:2; Psalms 51:11; 139:7; Isaiah 61:1-3; Joel 14-16; 26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14, 2 Peter 1:21; Revelations 22:17)

Eternity – Somewhere Forever Man was created to exist forever. He will exist eternally

separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence. (John

3:16; 36; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13; Revelation 20:15)

Healing – To minster and to receive Healing is available today just as it was when the disciples

walked the earth. Jesus bore stripes on His back for our sickness and disease; He was made a curse for us that we might be free from the curse. The healing Jesus paid is not just physical, but emotional as well. We as believers are to lay hands on the sick as Jesus did, to bring healing and wholeness to a hurting world. (1 Peter 2:24; Mark16:15-18; Acts 10:38; Galatians 3:13; Isaiah 5:3)

Salvation – God’s Only Way The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the

only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment of their sin. Salvation is a gift from God and it cannot be earned through our own efforts. Prayer Guidelines

Definition of prayer Prayer is communicating with God. It takes different forms, but

basically it occurs when man talks with God and God talks with man. Prayer is described as:o Calling upon the name of the Lord – Genesis 12:8o Crying unto God – Psalms 27:7o Drawing near to God – Psalms 73:28o Looking up – Psalms 5:3o Lifting up the soul – Psalms 25:1o Lifting up the heart – Lamentations 3:41o Pouring out the soul – 1 Samuel 1:15o Crying to Heaven – 2 Chronicles 32:20o Beseeching the Lord – Exodus 32:11o Seeking God – Job 8:5o Seeking the face of the Lord – Psalms 27:8o Making supplication – Job 8:5

How prayer is answered Immediately at times - Isaiah 65:24 Delayed at times – Luke 18:7 Different from our desires – 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 Beyond our expectations – Jeremiah 33:3

The prayer life of Jesus Jesus made prayer a priority

o He prayed any time of the day or night – Luke 6:12-13o Prayer took priority over eating – John 4:31-32o Prayer took priority over business – John 4:31-32o He taught prayer to his disciples

Levels of Prayer Asking: The first level of prayer. It is simply presenting a

request to God and receiving an immediate answer. In order to receive, the condition is to ask

Seeking: A deeper level of prayer is where answers are not as immediate as at the asking level. The 120 gathered in the upper room where they continued in prayer is an example of seeking. These men and women sought fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit and continues seeking until the answer came (Acts 1-2)

Knocking: Is a prayer that is persistent when answers are longer in coming. It is illustrated by the parable Jesus told in Luke 11:5-10. It is also illustrated by the persistence of Daniel

who continued to “knock” despite the fact he saw no visible results because Satan hindered the answer from God (Daniel 10)

Types of prayer Worship and praise – Entering Gods presence with

worship and praiseo “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts

Common Topics/Situations: Single Parent household

o “We have not stopped praying for you since the first day we heard about you. In fact, we always pray that God will show you everything he wants you to do and that you may have all the wisdom and understanding that his Spirit gives. Then you will live a life that honors the Lord, and you will always please him by doing good deeds. You will come to know God even better. His glorious power will make you patient and strong enough to endure anything, and you will be truly happy.” Colossians 1:9-11 (CEV)

o “Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (GNT)

Drug/Alcohol Abuse/ Addictionso “No temptation has overtaken you except what is

common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13-14

o “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

Insecurityo “Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life,

what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ...” Matthew 6:25-34

you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. “For this reason, a man will leave
