Why use anti-reflectivecoatings on solar cover glass?

• About 4% of the light hitting the glass of a solar modules is reflected and thus lost for electricity production.

• Reflections can be reduced and thus light transmission can be increased by using antireflective (AR) coatings.

• The higher electricity output results in a reduction of the cost per Wp!

• ‘Traditional’ AR coatings are either expensive or have to compromise on the balance optical vs mechanical properties.

• DSM has developed a unique single layer AR coating which minimizes reflection without compromising on the durability.

• DSM’s AR coating technology is marketed under the brand-name KhepriCoat™ and is available via a licensing model

Why is KhepriCoat™ differentfrom traditional AR coatings?

In contrast to ‘traditional’ AR coatings, the DSM AR coating has a closedsilica-based structure with a high internal nano-porosity

•Voids are formed in the coating layer by using core-shell particles with a silica shell•The voids between the particles are completely filled with a solid silica-based binder giving a very strong bond•The closed and smooth surface for excellent durability, mechanical properties and cleanability

Performance of PV-modules coated with KhepriCoat™

Module tests performed at Photovoltaik Institut Berlin (www.pi-berlin.com)

•Passed all tests according to IEC 61215 (damp-heat, humidity-freeze, thermal cycling and others)•TüV certification for commercial modules with KhepriCoat™ AR coating obtained•No degradation visible during damp-heat test for 2000 hours (twice the IEC test norm)•Up to 3% performance increase at normal angle of incidence (flash test)•up to 5% performance increase at 60 degrees angle of incidence (flash test)
