* Degree Type: B = Bachelor's, M = Master's, FP = First Professional, DR = Doctoral2 At the fourth year of a five or six year master's program the student is awarded the BSHS degree.3 BS Engineering awarded from an associated institution (Case Western Reserve University or the University of Pittsburgh). A BA in Physics from Duquesne
awarded at same time, but not until completion of the engineering degree from the associated institution.4 The Pre-Health Professions Program is a university-wide program open to students in any major seeking a career in medicine as well as dentistry,
podiatry, optometry, chiropractic or veterinary medicine. The student receives a BA or BS degree in a major from Duquesne University before matriculating to medical school.5 A cooperative degree program with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), administered at Duquesne by the School of Natural & Environmental
Sciences, in which students complete prerequisite coursework for admission to LECOM's osteopathic medicine program. At the end of three years, the student matriculates to LECOM, and after successful completion of the first year at LECOM, the student receives a Bachelor of Science degree from Duquesne University.6 This program is designed for individuals who have completed a bachelor's degree and are interested in pursuing a career in medicine, dentistry, podiatry,
optometry, chiropractic, or veterinary medicine. Upon successful completion, the student is prepared to matriculate to a medical school.

FACT BOOK TERMS:
Academic Program An instructional program leading toward a bachelor's, master's, doctoral or first-professional degreeor resulting in credits that can be applied to one of these degrees.
Academic Level A classification which includes Freshman (FR), Sophomore (SO), Junior (JR) and Senior (SR), as well asGraduate (GR), First Professional (FP) and other special classes.
Academic Rank A system that classifies faculty. Includes professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor.
Academic Year The year beginning with the fall semester and ending at the conclusion of the following spring semester.
Certificate A formal award presented at the completion of a post-secondary, post-baccalaureate, or post-master's academicprogram.
Credit Hour A unit of measure representing an hour (50 minutes) of instruction per week over a semester.
Department An organizational unit within a school that has its own budget.
Degree An award conferred by Duquesne University as recognition for the successful completion of an academic program.
Enrollment Status All students enrolled are either classified as full-time (FT) or part-time (PT) depending upon their individualcredit load and academic level.
Fall Semester (or Spring Semester), a fifteen week period that is part of the academic year.
First Professional A degree requiring at least six years of college work to complete, among other criteria. At Duquesne University,the Law and Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) programs.
Fiscal Year For Duquesne University, the year beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
Full Time Equivalent (FTE) a measure of enrollment, calculated by dividing undergraduate credits by 15 and graduate credits by 12,per US and PA Departments of Education guidelines.
Instructional Faculty Those members of the instruction/research staff whose major regular assignment is instruction.
Joint Program An academic program that includes all or most of the requirements of two unique academic programs administeredby two of the University's schools. Two unique degrees are awarded.
Location A code that identifies the location where the student is enrolled in courses.
Major An area of academic focus, when combined with a degree, yields an academic program.
Non-Resident Alien A person who is not a citizen or national of the United States, and does not have the right to remain here indefinitely.
Race The ethnicity self-identified by the student or employee. This classification is set by the US Dept. of Education andincludes: Non-Resident Alien, Black/Non-Hispanic, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, White/non-Hispanic or Hispanic.
School An academic unit responsible for the collection of academic programs within that school. At Duquesne University,there are ten schools, each headed by a Dean.
School Code A number corresponding to a particular school and level, which is tied to billing rates.
Student Type A code used at Duquesne University to identify unique groups of students.
