SportRelief2014...
Friday 21 March 2014On Friday 21 March 2014 Oasis Academy will be joining the thousands of people all over the
country in raising money for Sport Relief .
Following student ideas and suggestions, there will be two challenges this year; an inter-school
triathlon competition (running, rowing and cycling) and a whole school sponsored run/walk.
Inter school triathlonStudents from all year groups are invited to apply for a place in the triathlon. Places are limited
and students who are interested in taking part are asked to complete an application form
stating why they think they should be selected to take part in this event.
Sponsored Run/WalkThis event is open to all students who want to raise money for Sport Relief and will be heldsimultaneously on both sites starting after lunch. Students who arrive with a completed
sponsorship form on the day will be able to take part and will need to have a change of clothes for
the event, so no school uniform please. However Sports Fancy Dress is encouraged so we arelooking forward to seeing some interesting outfits!
Please encourage your child to take part in what is set to be a fun, rewarding day and all
sponsorships however big or small will go a long way in supporting this worthy cause.
Look out for a report and pictures in future
bulletins.

E-safety helping your child stay safeThe best way to help your child to be a safe when using the internet and new technologies is to talk to them and make surethey understand these simple rules:
Children should never give out their personal details to online friends. They should use a nickname when logging
on. They should not share their full name, email address, mobile number, school name or any photos, including pho-
tos of family or friends since any picture or video online can be changed or shared without your knowledge!
Talk to your child about what they are doing online and who they are talking to. Get them to show you how to use
things you are not familiar with. Keeping the computer in a family room means that you can share your childs online
experience and they are less likely to act inappropriately (i.e. via webcam) and their online friends will see they are
in a family room.
If your child receives a message that upsets them, remind them not to reply. They should save the message and
show you or another trusted adult.
Do not reply to or forward spam and junk emails/texts. Just delete them.
Do not open les sent from people you do not know. They could contain a virus, or worse, an inappropriate image or
video.
Help your child to understand that some people lie online. They should never meet up with any online friends they
do not know well without an adult they trust.
Make sure your child knows how to block someone online and report that person if they feel uncomfortable.
Make sure your child feels able to talk to you. Let them know that it is never too late to tell someone if something
makes them feel uncomfortable. Do not blame your child; let then know you trust them.
