It is the sixth year we have launched the program. High Flyers 2014 – Where Dreams Get Inaugurated is specially designed for business students in HKUST and provides opportunities for participants to experience the latest recruitment process.

Mentoring Program 2014The Mentoring Program was established 13 years ago. With the substantial support from external bodies and the Department of Accounting, as well as the enormous contribution and efforts of the Executive Committee and Organizing Committee, the program has been gaining popularity and becoming more reputable than before.

The theme of Mentoring Program is “The Chest” and the theme statement is “Crave for Epiphany”. In the ancient times, a chest is a box containing lots of valuables and possessions, which will be placed in a concealed location by the ancestors. Following the clues and prompts left behind, the descendants keep searching for the inheritance of their parents. We are proud to present the main theme of the program as “The Chest” symbolizing the wisdom and experience of our mentors, illustrating the ways our prestigious mentors offering their care and advice to their mentees to guide the youth to a brilliant and prosperous future. Mentees, the descendants, are expected to learn and be inspired with passion and initiative.

This year, 50 prestigious business leaders from prominent firms in Accounting, Finance and Banking sectors have devoted themselves with vision and passion to become our mentors. After our promotion for the program in early September, we received around 130 applications, of which more than 100 outstanding mentees were selected after the 3-day interview.

Professional Grooming WorkshopsIn these workshops, valuable opportunities to learn and acquire skincare and makeup skills for formal occasions and interviews were provided to our mentees with the generous support from Clinique and Shiseido.

Business Manner WorkshopWith the support from Mr. Neal Yeung, an experience instructor providing business etiquette training to worldwide companies, the Business Manner Workshop was successfully held to equip our mentees with communication techniques, tips on dressing in formal occasions and dinning etiquette.

Somnium – Young Entrepreneur SharingWith the substantial support from jobsDB Hong Kong Limited, two successful entrepreneurs, Mr. Lawrence Lau from Phocus and Mr. Ronnie Cheng from Lab Made, have been invited to conduct a sharing with our participants on their experience and tips on starting their own business.

Ice-Breaking DinnerOur highlighted sub-function – the Ice-Breaking Dinner was held at W Hong Kong in late November. The cocktail session had provided an invaluable chance for our mentees to chat with our prominent mentors casually. Followed by the speech from Prof. Kevin Chen, Chair Professor and Head of Department of Accounting, HKUST, the dinner was formally started. During the dinner, mentors interacted and shared their stories with their mentees. The dining hall was filled with joy after playing several ice-breaking games and lucky draws. Finally, the dinner ended with a photo-taking session yet symbolized the commencement of the long lasting relationships between mentors and mentees in the coming year.

Hereby, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the support and contribution from the Department of Accounting, HKUST, jobsDB Hong Kong Limited, Clinique, Shiseido, Mr. Ronnie Cheng, Mr. Lawrence Lau and Mr. Neal Yeung, our Persons-in-charge and organizing committee. P.4

Join For Joy 2014

Join for Joy 2014, one of the major recreational and entertaining functions organized by Accounting Students’ Society, HKUSTSU, is for members to relax and temporarily escape from the heavy workload and tight exam schedule. Meanwhile, it also acts as a channel to strengthen the interaction and friendship among members as well as between members and the executive committee, hence enhancing their sense of belongings towards our Society.

This year, with the joint effort of organizing committee members and our executive committee real-life room escape game named “Jeepers Seekers” was held in HKUST campus on 20th November 2014. The promotion period kicked off on 27th October 2014 and the promotion items were displayed around the campus.

The party started at 6: 30 pm on that day and participants were divided into different groups. Through a couple of warm-up games, participants were more familiar with their group members. Then, the participants moved to our designed classrooms and enjoyed the real-life room escape game. Within the limited time, participants had to find the hints and escape from the room. After 1 hour of room escape game, participants could enjoy delicious refreshment prepared by us. After the lucky draw, the party finally ended at 10:00pm and all participants left with smiling faces.

We would like to thank several parties for their generous support and help towards Join for Joy 2014. First, the support from BDO Limitedwas important to the success of the party. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by the organizing committee members were impressive. Without your support, the party would not have been successfully held. Assisted by the three other persons-in-charge and one big organizing committee, the function was run smoothly. Lastly, thank you all participants for coming to the party.

Organizing Committee Reviews

Cheung Yan Chi, Join For Joy

Wan Siu Yan, Join For Joy
