The EADInn Bridge is the fi nal conference of the EU-funded project “European Anti-Doping Initiative” (EADIn) and concludes the 15-month cooperation of nine partner organisations.
The aim of the project is to create a trans national network to develop and encourage anti-doping education in the youth sector of European organized sports using peer-to-peer networks.
www.anti-doping-initiative.eu
The “EADInn Bridge” conference is the final stage of the EU-funded project, the European Anti-Doping Initiative, and a first stepping stone for the continuation of the efforts of nine European partner organizations in preventive anti-doping work.
Being in Innsbruck, which is characterized by bridges, for our final conference during the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games inevitably raises questions about the discrepancies between the Olympic values we wish to convey to young sportswomen and sportsmen today and the reality, the pressure and desire for incredible performance and excellence, which young people are faced with not only in the sporting world but in their day to day lives. At first glance, uniting both of these worlds often seems to be an unsurmountable task. Our endeavor within the EADIn project has been to build a bridge between these realities and thereby raise awareness that everyone has the choice to opt for an ethically fair sport. “EADInn Bridge” should be an impulse for a future path; not only sensitizing and raising awareness on all levels of the complex social environment that
surrounds the doping problematic, but also encouraging the development of new initiatives for preventing substance abuse in the youth sector. We strongly believe that only by investing continuously into the education of young people and by developing programs that respect cultural and specific characteristics, will we be able to accomplish a long-term and self-perpetuating change of paradigm.
I wish you a successful and interesting conference,
Jan Holze January 2012

For the partners of the European Anti-Doping Initiative (EADIn) the prevention and fight against doping is – or in the course of the EADIn project has become – a central theme of work. It was possible to test the educative structure suggested by EADIn within a European dimension for the first time and this encouraged further developments, transnational exchange of experiences, and most important of all peer-to-peer networks of young Europeans who have been sensitized about the doping problematic and are motivated to pass on their experience to further young people in their own structures.
This publication has been created for them: the Anti-Doping Junior Ambassadors (ADJA) and co-ordinators without whom this project would not have been possible. We want to breathe life into the work that has been done and merit the effort of all the individuals who have spent their time and effort to make EADIn work, for they are the central figures of this initiative. The feedback of the young Europeans involved in EADIn confirms that peer-to-peer networks are the right approach in order to create a lasting change in the European youth sector. We invite you to continue the work
that has been started and to keep on developing and adapting the foundations that have been created with EADIn.
We wish you great pleasure to discover who has been at the front line to put the European Anti-Doping Initiative into practice!

DSJ Gerhard Treutlein 70, Germany Coordinator
We worked with and educated six Anti-Doping Junior Ambassadors and had two national coordinators, Mr. Manuel Ruep and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Treutlein.
They organized three seminars to educate a total of 70 young athletes (aged 18–25) from various sports federations in Germany, who were in turn asked to start new initiatives in their own structures. More than half of these young adults have started awareness-raising campaigns in clubs, federations and schools. Local and German-wide media is regularly reporting about these events.
For our organisation the EADIn Project meant an important step to develop our preventive anti-doping education further on a European level, to exchange best practices with European partners and to enlarge the pool of young Anti-Doping Junior Ambassadors and increase the networking between them.
In the future, for the European youth sport sector, it would be important to ensure the continuation of educating and moti vating young people to become active as Anti-Doping Junior Ambassadors (ADJA) as every year new individuals are reaching the critical age where the awareness for doping prevention needs to be raised and current ADJA will grow out of their roles as peer leaders. National and international funding for these acti vi ties is imperative in order to keep on educating the European youth sector!

We worked with and educated five key anti-doping junior am bas sadors: Andre Bonello from Malta, Jan Druzina and Tjasa Hojnik from Slovenia, Luka Rukavina from Croatia and Aikaterini Zompanaki from Greece, and two coordinators: Marko Zunic from Croatia and Abosede Ajayi from United Kingdom. The overall project was managed from EUSA by Andrej Pisl, Communications Manager.
They carried out activities during six European Universities Championships and each ambassador also carried out lectures and workshops in coopera tion with their national university sports association. Several articles have been published in electronic and printed media. Within the project a semi nar with pan-European presence will be organised in March 2012, and we will carry out with the promotion also beyond the timeframe of this project.
For our organisation the EADIn Project meant … a lot! Our ambassadors were given unique experiences, and proved them selves in several roles. With the help of the coordinators and in co operation with other organisations, a lot of activities have been carried out. We are happy that the visibility of clean sport, fair play and anti-doping in particular has been improved through active participation in EADIn.
In the future, for the European youth sport sector, it would be important to carry out activities in this field, as only long(er)-term projects and initiatives can bring notable results. EUSA will continue working in promoting core values of student sport, including awareness raising about doping and its threats. We hope to continue cooperation with other partners in the project, and would recommend continued support and funding of EADIn also by EU institutions.

FIAF Paolo Emilio Adami 28, Italy/USA Coordinator
We have worked with and trained six Anti Doping Junior Ambassadors and one Coordinator. The first four national level Junior Ambassadors were trained at the Anti Doping camp in Burghausen. Two more to support them were trained in Italy.
They got in touch with many young athletes coming from their own sport organizations and federations. The informative action was based on a two-way methodology. The ADJA relayed the information acquired on doping substances to their peers while answering the young athletes questions on substance effect.
For our organisation the EADIn Project meant raising issues that are usually avoided and seen as dangerous, especially in elite sports. Giving young athletes this kind of information makes them aware of the physical effect of doping and allows them to make responsible and conscious choices.
In the future, for the European youth sport sector, it would be important to continue investing in young people with respect to their culture. The future of European sports should depend upon the awareness of the consequences of doping and the inherent values of sport!

Barbara Lang 36, Austria Coordinator
We worked with six Anti-Doping Junior Ambassadors (ADJA) and two coordinators, Mr. Jörg Schmeck and Mrs. Barbara Lang. The ADJA implemented educational measures in their own national structures which are based in: France (FSCF), Germany (DJK), Austria (Sportunion), Czeck Republic (Orel) and Rumania (CSR).
They organised workshops, speeches and seminars in various different settings, from regional clubs to federation-wide events. More than 100 young sportswomen and sportsmen from six countries were sensitized towards an “anti-doping mentality” at the annual FICEP Camp.
For our organisation the EADIn Project meant a large coordinating effort. Through the active cooperation of our members and the hands-on engagement of the ADJA, the EADIn project proved to be an indispensable asset for FICEP which will lead the path for future co-operations.
In the future, for the European youth sport sector, it would be important to make available the information, such as the training tool and the experiences of the EADIn partners, which have been gathered during the EADIn project for trainers and coaches all over Europe. Translating this information into further European languages would be of essence in order to reach this goal as well as continuously updating the existing homepage.

We worked with 1 coordinator and educated 7 Anti-Doping Junior Ambassadors in the course of the EADIn project.
They held various information sessions at the level of their federations, to athletes of their age or younger; of their universities, for those involved in sport programs; and for children in elementary schools.
For our organisation the EADIn Project meant being able to reach a wide range of people who could face the dangers or temptation of doping (athletes, but also parents, coaches …) through the voice of young motivated athletes who gained a real credibility thanks to their ambassador status. Furthermore, it is important for us to be part of a European collaboration which could prove decisive for the future of the anti-doping fight and prevention.
In the future, for the European youth sport sector, it would be important to coordinate more the actions of the ADJA, to keep on encouraging their work – which is a real asset for Europe – and to finance more of this kind of projects.

We worked with and educated six Anti-Doping Junior Ambassadors and had two national coordinators – Mrs. Renate Reingruber and Mr. Helmut Baudis.
They held contact regularly to prepare a large Anti-Doping Junior Seminar in November. In the end of September a preparation meeting took place in Vienna. The whole team visited the National Anti-Doping Agengy and prepared the programme, the workshops and the presentations for the seminar.
For our organisation the EADIn Project meant an important step to a high quality preventive anti-doping work in the field of youth sport.
In the future, for the European youth sport sector, it would be important to continue the co-operation and intensive communication between the partner organisations. The involved young people need a close contact to the leadership of the Federation and any support which is possible to continue their peer-to-peer education work.

For our Organization the EADIn Project meant a great opportunity to start with different education programs for young Slovenian athletes.
In the future, for the European youth sport sector, it would be important to have more projects like EADIn. We be-lieve that a concept with junior ambassadors is perfect for educating young athletes.

EADIn implementation in Slovenia
24 25
The European Anti-Doping Initiative (EADIn), funded by the European Commission in the preparatory Action in the field of Sport 2011–2012, was implemented between December 2010 and March 2012. A transnational network of seven sports and socio-cultural organizations (from the sports-for-all, fitness- and amateur- sector), a pedagogical institute and a national anti-doping office was created. The aim of the project was to develop an European-wide “Anti-Doping Mentality” in the European youth sector by:
establishing a moral tenor towards concepts such as “fair play” and an “ethical sport”;
developing young people’s self-confidence and communication skills;
encouraging critical, reflective, assertive and responsible behavior in order to recognize the potential risk at hand and to explore sensible and acceptable strategies to handle the desire for performance;
sensitizing and raising awareness, not only in the youth sector, but on all levels of the complex social environment that surrounds the doping problematic;
finding and implementing strategies to motivate young people to pass on this message to their peers, thus creating a self-perpetuating, multiplying effect.
Peer-to-peer networks of Anti- Doping Junior Ambassadors (ADJA) in the partner organizations youth sectors were created through the education at a European youth camp in June 2011 and further seminars and conferences which were organised in the partner’s own structures on national and European levels. To support the work of the ADJAs and disseminate the research and experience of the EADIn partners, the EADIn Training Tool was developed and is available as a download on the projects homepage:

ENGSO Youth has 10 years of experience in organizing, managing and steering transnational initiatives in the youth sport sector. ENGSO Youth has 40 members which are European national umbrella organisations for sport and focusses on the European youth sport-for-all sector, promotes topics such as sport, health, inclusion, participation, volunteering of young people in European sports, equal opportunities and international cooperation.
Since 2003 the Centre for Doping Prevention and the DSJ have been researching to develop a structure for preventive doping education. Basis for this structure were activities conducted in France by the CNOSF and the Franco-German co-operation which implemented bi-national youth camps. The EADIn project allowed this educative model to develop within a European dimension.
