About Me I am a motivated and enthusiastic designer, specialising in Corporate identity and visual branding, logo design, brochures and reports, promotional material, exhibition and information graphics as well as web design.

I have worked as a Graphic Designer for over twenty seven years. I began in a small studio called Tallon Graphic in Dublin in 1985, there I got to work with a wide range of Clients and most of the surrounding Advertising Agencies. I started my career doing finished art and paste-up and have adapted to the new technologies that have been life changing in the design industry (Thank You Steve Jobs and all those at Apple!).

I have also run my own studio, Joydesign a Design studio based in Dublin, which was rewarding in many ways and gave me a greater understanding for the mechanics of how a studio functions and how a business needs to be driven.

During my time as a designer I have worked on a large range or projects for clients such as AIB, Goodbody Stockbrokers, JWT, Lets talk phones, eircom, Clonmel Healthcare and many more.

Joydesign

Managing Director/Creative Director 2003 – 2007 (4 years)As Managing Director I was able to continue the relationship I had built up with my clients in Tallon Graphics after it closed, all of whom were happy to continue working with Joydesign.

Joydesign was Design studio based in Dublin, working in both web and print design. We prided ourselves on letting the client brief the designers, allowing them to provide unique concepts and develop their ideas through to the finished product. This included, design, artwork preparation and print management.

Senior Graphic Designer 1985 – 2003 (18 years)Tallon Graphics was a small design studio based on Leeson Street, we worked with most of the large Advertising Agencies in this area of Dublin, Des O’Mearas, Hunter Advertising, QMP who would all farm out work to our studio.

We also had a wide range of our own clients to whom we provided a design and print service. Clients such as JWT, Bruce Shaw, AIB, Goodbody Stockbrokers and many more. I worked here till it closed in 2003 and I decided to set up Joydesign.

MS Ireland - Reach for a Star Campaign

MS Ireland wanted to engaged in fund raising to maintain and develop its national service, they felt that a Christmas Campaign was the way to go, I came up with the Reach for A Star concept, Which was launched for Christmas 2006.

The Idea was to sell the stars in local stores nationwide to rase funds for MS Ireland. We also suggested that they approach a major shopping centre and ask if they could sell sponsored stars on the centres Christmas tree. As support has increased over the years, the tree itself has grown and now stands in the Blanchardstown Centre. Companies who sponsor a star are also featured in The Irish Times, Business Plus and of course on the MS Ireland website.

Arthritis Ireland - Juvenile Arthritis Campaign

Arthritis ireland were looking for new ways to raise funds and increase peoples awareness of Juvenile Arthritis.

We devloped the JAsper pins to to raise funds to provide vital services for kids with Juvenile Arthritis. The little pins only cost €2 each, but the funds generated from their sale provide a whole series of supports for children and their parents including the Juvenile Arthritis family day, Juvenile Arthritis Road Trip, our information service and lots more!

We also designed a direct mail piece to educate people about Juvenile Arthritis, and encourage them to support Arthritis Ireland.


Irish Insurance Federation - Report Suspect Claims Campaign

The Irish Insurance Federation wanted to tackle the ever growing problem of fraudulent claims. The aim of the poster campaign was to infuriate the public by letting them know that they were the real victims of this crime.

Policyholders need to be made aware that this fraud was costing them real money and that they could do something about it. In the first month alone the hot line received 300 calls.

This Campaign also received a large amount of press coverage and went on to win an IDEA award.


Irish Insurance Federation - Report Suspect Claims TV Campaign

Following on from the success of the billboard campaign the Irish Insurance Federation felt that a television commercial would be the next step in spreading the message on fraudulent claims.

Having had a great deal of success with the previous campaign we were asked to pitch our ideas for the 30 second slot.

We created an ad that showed ordinary people doing every day tasks such as banking, shopping and going on holidays, the main characters had stockings over their head to reinforce the idea that they were robbers and criminals. But the message told you that you were the one being robbed and you should report it.


Christina O - Promotional Brochure

We were asked to design and print a promotional brochure to promote the Christina O, once owned by the legend that was Aristotle Onassis. The brochure should have a feel for the period and the life that was lived on the yacht.

We felt that he piece should reflect the history of this great vessel, Onassis’ guests on board the yacht were some of the most famous and influential people of the time. At night, Christina O served as the stage for Onassis’ celebrated social life, as he played host to Presidents and Prime Ministers, royalty and film stars. Christina O’s fame owes itself to names such as Maria Callas, The Begum of Aga Kahn, John Paul Getty, John D Rockefeller, Eva Peron, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Rudolf Nureyev, John Wayne, Greta Garbo and Dame Margot Fonteyn... John F Kennedy and Sir Winston Churchill first met as guests of Aristotle Onassis on board Christina O and two of the century’s most celebrated wedding receptions were held on Christina O; Prince Rainier to Princess Grace, and Onassis to Jackie Kennedy.


Appleby Jewellers - Jewellery Brochure

The Appleby brochure was designed to reflect the Appleby experience, they promise each of their customers the very best in service, selection and value. This commitment to quality should be reflected in the printed brochure.

We let the pieces speak for themselves, and worked with the photographer to create a crisp clean brochure that showed the jewellery in the best light.


AIB Global Treasury Services - We’re Number One Campaign

AIB Global Treasury Services had won some awards and they wanted to promote this by direct mail and press ads, the Idea was to use the Globe as the 'O' in the word “One” to show that they provide a comprehensive range of treasury risk, cash management and trade finance services and solutions to an extensive domestic and international client base. They have a world class team of treasury specialists deal exclusively with corporate, commercial and institutional customers, advising on and determining exposures in major and emerging markets world-wide.

The mail piece was an A5 card with a Branded Globe Stress Ball, the Ball could be removed from the card wich bore the message “Avoid the Stress”.


AIB Private Banking - Alpha Japan Fund Investment Brochure

The Alpha Japan fund brochure was designed to promote investment in select properties in Japan. This brochure was distributed to potential investers to inform them about the investment fund and the Japanese economy and culture.

The Fund closed its fundraising on 3 May 2007 at which time a total of circa €128 million had been committed by investors in a combination of ordinary shares and loan stock.


AIB Global Treasury Services - Trade Access Folder and Inserts

Trade Access is AIB Global Treasury Services innovative Global Trade Finance portal. The folder and inserts was put together to facilate the need to up date the content on an on going basis, rather than reprit a whole brochure the inserts could be updated and replaced as needed.

TradeAccess is designed to assist importers and exporters in the convenient, efficient and secure online management of their Letters of Credits, Documentary Collections and International Bank Guarantees.


Goodbody Stockbrokers - Retirement Asset Services Brochure

Goodbody Stockbroker wanted a brochure to promote the fact that they do retirement plans to suit your personal needs. The retirement plans are Tailor Made, so we used the Imagery of a Tailor cutting his cloth to meet his needs to reflect this, we also used various other tailoring images through out the brochure to empathise this theme.


Irish Council for Civil Liberties - Justice Matters

The report by the Irish Council of Civil Liberties - the first of its kind - assesses the independence and impartiality of our judges, Justice Matters is a booklet of research carried out into the independence and the Accountability of the Irish judiciary.

We were set the task of turning what was a text heavy document into a more interesting and appealing colourful booklet.


Joydesign - Promotional Materials

As a design studio Joydesign created many promotional pieces from bottled water, to clever Christmas cards as well as a cool moving card.

Our branding was both striking and clean, we got noticed because we stood out!

We were passionate about what we did and we enjoyed our work!
