GENERAL

The Fault Passage Indicator has designed to meet demand

of Ring Main Unit (RMU) type switchgear where in each

distribution centre is accessible from both direction feeders.

The advantage is that if one side feeder fails, immediate

supply can be recovered by isolating fault link and joining

supply from other side. This restores supply very quickly.

OPERATION

The relay has specially developed for ground fault detection

based on principle of Core Balanced Current Transformer

(CBCT). Split Open type CT is provided which can be fixed

on existing three phase cable without disconnecting. It has

suitable mountings provided to clamp it permanently in

position. Normally 3 phase supply wires are taken through

the CT centre. The sheath (Earth/Neutral) wire is excluded.

It monitors fault current through CBCT. The moment fault

current is more then set value, relay operates. The relay

operation is indicated on LED. The relay resets when

manually the 'RESET' push button is pressed. The relay

continuously monitor unbalance current from three-phase

cable using CBCT mounted around the outer sheath of the

cable.

The relay is buffered by a lithium battery for feeding the LED

Indication. After tripping operation the relay maintains fault

by LED Indication. During this time, the relay uses power

through internal battery. The battery has a service life of

1000 blinking hours.
