Pol Roger Brut NV Region: Epernay, Champagne, France
Varietals: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier Style: In Pol We Trust
Notes: When it comes to Champagne there are many cases of inconsistency, but Pol Roger, like a well-oiled
machine continue to produce non-vintage Champagne of the highest quality year after year. The Pol Roger family
believe this wine is their most important as it sets the standard for all of the wines to follow. Careful fruit
selection is key, as well as long ageing in their cellar; the wine is not sold until the youngest component is at least three years old (that’s double the required time).
Pure green apple and pear entice the palate with toasty hints of honey drizzled on brioche adding
complexity. Delicious!

Laherte Freres Brut Ultratradition NV
Region: Champagne, France Varietals: Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
Notes: The Laherte estate philosophy lies in taking time to do things well and being satisfied with naturally ripe and healthy grapes. And who are we to argue, the healthiest grapes often make the greatest wines! This Pinot Meunier dominant blend is all about clarity with
some added punch. Freshly baked bread wafts towards you and before you know it you can taste fresh apricots
and crisp apples with great acidity producing a lively palate with great texture.

José Dhondt Blanc de Blancs NV Region: Oger, Champagne, France
Variety: Chardonnay
Notes: It was wasn’t until 1974 that José Dhondt, a long time grower, produced his first cuvée. Dhondt
avoids chemicals as much as possible, practicing what the French call "culture raisonnée", basically he likes to let the vineyard, soils, "terroir" do the work. Here we have an animated and quite high-toned Blanc de Blanc with
gentle floral aromas that continue to a palate with enjoyable citrus flavours that possess tremendous complexity and
outstanding tenacity through to the toasty finish.

presence. Toasted raisin bread with mushrooms sautéed in loads of butter creates an alluring bouquet. The palate is finely tuned from the word go which builds on layers of
peach and bright red fruits. A rich creamy texture is complimented with notes of honey and oyster shell.
A Champagne to enjoy with food.

Arras Brut Elite NV Region: Tasmania
Winemaker: Ed Carr Style: All Class
Notes: At this time of the year, when only bubbles will do and Champagne prices are just out of reach,
along strides Arras. A hero in so many ways: not just is it surely the best Australian sparkling going around, we
believe it rivals quite a few Champagne cuvees too. There are the classic yeasty and oyster shell characters
all tied up with precision and subtle citrus fruits. This wine has class written all over it!

an EEC favourite, showing Italian prowess at an Aussie price. Radiating with white blossoms, elderflower and
peaches with pink musk sticks and sherbet. Yes it's sweet but it never feels cloying and at the end of the

}}We’re as excited about Riesling as ever,
some great wines from alternative varieties are in the book too. And Sav Blanc is getting more sophisticated with some lees work and

complexity and texture.

Down to Earth Sauvignon Blanc 2014
Region: Wrattonbully, SA Winemakers: Xavier Bizot and Lucy Croser
Style: Yardstick for Savvys?
Notes: Xavier Bizot is determined to produce Australia's best Sauvignon Blanc, and whilst his top
level Terre à Terre is surely in contention for that title, it was their “entry level” Down to Earth Savvy that stood out for us. This is the expression of this variety that we should all embrace. Charming tropical fruits delivered
with great texture built from a touch of oak. A flinty, crisp wine with fantastic length.

Jericho Fume Blanc 2014Region: Adelaide Hills
Winemakers: Neil and Andrew Jericho Style: Tropical Sensation
Notes: A fantastic example of Sauvignon Blanc we are seeing quite a lot of lately, inspired by wines of the Pouilly-Fumé in the Loire Valley, France. With
some barrel work being fermented in old French oak and some time aged on lees. The key is balance
between the toasty oak flavours whilst still maintaining fresh, vibrant tropical fruits true to the Sauvignon Blanc
grape. It’s safe to say Jericho nailed the brief with their 2014 release.

Massey Dacta Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Region: Marlborough, NZ Winemaker: Ben Glover
Style: Classic Kiwi
Notes: Marlborough Savvy is here to stay and when they hit a price point like this and drink well too, you can understand why. This is distinctly New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and we mean that in a good way.
Definitive marks of gooseberry, peach and passionfruit direct the palate, with a pretty core of blackcurrant
and lemons holding it all together.

Coates Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Region: Adelaide Hills, SA Winemaker: Duane Coates
Style: Inspired
Notes: Duane Coates has drawn his inspiration for this wine from the classic Bordeaux whites, using some quite expensive oak on a wine most would press, ferment and bottle within a few months after vintage. At first glance
you could mistake this for a classy Chardonnay with toasty chalk aromas but on the palate you see that
classic cut grass, passionfruit and lemongrass flavours from the Sauvignon Blanc, it is accompanied well with the fuller peach and apple notes from the Semillon.

Maris Picpoul de Pinet 2013 Region: Languedoc, France
Winemaker: Benjamin Darnault Style: The Ultimate Oyster Wine
Notes: Picpoul de Pinet is the appellation in the Languedoc where the delicious grape Picpoul comes from, just a
stones throw from the Mediterranean Sea. The vineyards are just on the other side of the famous gigantic oysters
from Sète, and the relationship between Picpoul & oysters is a perfect match! This bone dry white, with
touches of pepper and lemon zest works magically with some freshly shucked oysters, by the pool if you can…

Vickery Riesling 2014 Region: Clare Valley, SA
Winemakers: John Vickery & Phil Lehmann Variety: Moscato Giallo
Style: A Legend Returns…
Notes: John Vickery and Riesling go way back, way, way back. The ‘Father of Australian Riesling’ - Think of all
those old Leo Buring and Richmond Groves from back in the day. He was also a leader of Australia’s first attempt in the 1970s to introduce screw caps. In his "retirement"
John has been lending his expertise to a few young players but the candle was burning to release a Riesling under his own name. An exquisite fragrant nose leaps
from the glass, whilst the palate with a gentle approach delivers intense lemon and limes with excellent weight
and power with a chalky, crisp finish. Welcome back John.

O’Leary Walker Polish Hill River Riesling 2014
Region: Clare Valley, SA Winemakers: David O’Leary & Nick Walker
Style: A vineyard destined for Riesling
Notes: What is it about this "Polish Hill River" site in the Clare Valley that produces such amazing
Rieslings? For O’Leary Walker it's the soil that makes this site so special, grey loam acid soils over sandstone and slate make up the profile with much of the top soil littered with rock, hinting at just how tough the vines
need to be to sustain growth and produce quality fruit with finesse and intensity. Showing muddled limes and orange zest and bouncy acidity, with a clean
finish and bright mid-palate.

Vinteloper Riesling 2014 Region: Clare Valley, SA
Winemaker: Dave Bowley Style: Fresh & Fun
Notes: A self-described Gen Y(ish) that runs on coffee, Dave Bowley burst onto the scene with his Vinteloper wines. He built a strong following on the social media scene with his urban winery set ups. Building the label up via these scenes was great, but for Dave it was the
wines that needed to stand up for longevity of the brand, and they continue to impress. This 2014 Riesling is overflowing with refreshing lemonade, with a touch
of blossom and granny smith apples, composed by a lovely bright finish.

Alexander Laible Trocken Riesling 2013
Region: Baden, Germany Style: Dry & Delicious
Notes: With a winemaking history dating back to 1672 it’s safe to say the Alexander Laible wines are well established in their homeland Germany, however this is our first look at the wines in Australia and they've made an impressive start. The 'Trocken' dry style of German
Riesling has seen a bit of hype over the past 12 months, refreshing Riesling with lovely textural components
and layers of fruit. Delicious.

and a nice citrus twist. Did we mention great value?

Mosquito Hill Pinot Blanc 2013 Region: Fleurieu Peninsula, SA
Winemaker: Glyn Jamieson Style: Delicate & Composed
Notes: With its obvious relationship to the Pinot family, Pinot Blanc although a lighter berried version
of Pinot Noir is however often compared with Chardonnay. Mosquito Hill's interpretation definitely
has a dare we say… "Chablis" like feel. A chalky texture with hints of melon, white peach and delicate floral notes really took us by surprise. A lovely drink
that shows great composure and is adaptable to accompany you on any occasion.

consumption in mind. Drinking this your mind can easily drift to imagine yourself in a bar in Barcelona eating
some Tapas and watching the world go by.

Palacios Remondo 'La Vendimia' 2012
Region: Rioja, Spain Varietals: Garnacha, Tempranillo
Style: Dashing Temp
Notes: Spain surely has some of the best graphic designers in the business… their wine labels always
stand out, but as they say don't judge a book by its cover. This wine though we can safely assure has great juice to accompany the awesome label. Black berries are given
life by fresh cola from the Tempranillo, with added spice for some extra dimension. A lovely character to this
wine with plenty of pizzazz too.

Waywood Quattro Vini 2012Region: McLaren Vale, SA
Winemaker: Andrew Wood Varietals: Sangiovese, Cabernet, Montepulciano, Shiraz
Style: Long Lunch Wine
Notes: Whilst not a traditional blend, three of the reds here all play a big part in the wines from Tuscany,
the Shiraz... well that's there to play a strong supporting role too! A medium bodied dry red that is a nice combination of soft fruitiness and savoury finish
making it an ideal red for early courses.

Pico Cuadro Crianza 2010Region: Ribera del Duero, Spain
Winemaker: Felipe Castrillo Martin Style: Sophisticated Spaniard
Notes: With winemaker Felipe's previous experience at the illustrious Vega Sicilia there were
slightly high expectations when we first came across the Pico Cuadro wines, and they did not dissatisfy the palate at all. Layers of well-integrated flavours work in harmony with some classy oak adding weight and vigour to this lavish Tempranillo. Wines from Ribera
del Duero of this class tend to come with a hefty price tag, making this an absolute steal!

Schwarz Wines META Shiraz 2012 Region: Barossa Valley, SA Winemaker: Jason Schwarz Style: Brave New Barossa
Notes: Jason Schwarz's META range is one of the most exciting releases from the Barossa we have seen this year. With access to some amazing old vines and
experimentation with whole bunch winemaking, different picking times and wild yeast fermentation, the results are outstanding! A bouquet of fresh dark fruits with dried herbs spring from the glass and as
the wine flows in a unified manner on the palate. The fine tannins compliment the slick, juicy and pretty fruit.

Kay Brothers Hillside Shiraz 2010 Region: McLaren Vale, SA
Winemaker: Colin Kay, Andy Coppard Style: Tradition Continues
Notes: Kay Brothers are the oldest family-owned winery in McLaren Vale established in 1890 and they're still producing exceptional red wines using traditional
methods. Their Hillside Shiraz is handpicked, open fermented and basket pressed. These methods have not changed at Kay Brothers in over a century and if it
ain't broke, why fix it? A rich and commanding Shiraz with lovely layers, as you peel down to the core you cross dark plum, espresso, and some toasty oak attributes, a well-balanced smooth texture and firm dry finish.

Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2012
Region: Eden Valley, SA Winemaker: Stephen Henschke
Style: Special (Bruce McAvaney Voice)
Notes: The '12 Mt Ed is a special one… It celebrates 60 years of the wine and 100 years of the vineyard! And
what a wine it is, it could almost be the best one yet. Ripe plummy fruits are well complemented by sage and thyme to create an enticing aroma. These attributes continue on the palate with a complex array of layers delivered with great concentration, great length and velvet like tannin. Looking for the perfect Christmas present, then look no further!

The Lane Block 5 Shiraz 2013Region: Adelaide Hills, SA
Winemakers: John Edwards & Michael Schreurs Style: Cool Climate Class
Notes: Every year a wine from The Lane seems to pass the vigorous Red Book blind tasting with flying colours, and each year it's a different variety. This just showcases the versatility from this producer to produce high quality wines across different styles and price ranges. A beautiful Shiraz that has all the wonderful characteristics of a well-made
cool-climate wine, but without being thin or insipid. A lovely medium-bodied Shiraz built for all seasons.

Anvers Razorback Road 2012 Region: Adelaide Hills, SA Winemaker: Kym Milne
Varieties: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon
Notes: The Classic Aussie dry red continues to go under the radar, we have no idea why, especially when they drink with ease like this
cracker from Anvers. This is meant to be an easy drinking red – not your cellar bound number. Soft tannins support the ease of consumption
whilst the flavour profile remains true. Nice mid-palate fruit of raspberry, a touch of mint
and some clove completes the platform.

Mawson’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Region: Wrattonbully, SA
Winemaker: Natalie Cleghorn Style: A Bold Bargain
Notes: It's a hard task to find top quality Cabernet at a bargain price which is why we were so pleasantly surprised when this wine came up trumps from our tasting. This Cab is bright, tight and fine with plenty
of fruit on the finish led by chocolate and cassis, good length and bold flavours seal the deal.

Whistle Post Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Region: Coonawarra, SA Style: Wholesome Cab
Notes: There is certainly something special about the Coonawarra and its "Terra Rossa" soil and just how well
suited it is to producing first-rate Cabernet. What we don't see enough of from the Coonawarra is new and exciting producers like Whistle Post. Overflowing with
ominous dark fruits of plums and cassis, this is a full flavoured red. The star here is the enduring dry tannins
that complete the Coonawarra Cab experience.

Dowie Doole Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Region: McLaren Vale, SA Winemaker: Chris Thomas
Style: Cellar value
Notes: The Vale is not your usual suspect for producing Cabernet, but when they do it right
it's something to behold. The sandy slopes of Dowie Doole's Tintookie vineyard produces a classic Cabernet. On the nose it portrays lifted notes of cassis, violets and dark chocolate. In the mouth there is generous fruit that works well with some classy oak; structured and refined,
finishing balanced, long and dry. You could safely put this wine away in the cellar and reap the awards in a few years
time, which is rarely seen for a wine of this price.

Kalleske Fordson Zinfandel 2013 Region: Barossa Valley, SA Winemaker: Troy Kalleske
Style: Rich & Decadent
Notes: Leaders in organic and bio-dynamic viticulture, the Kalleske family consider themselves caretakers of
the land and not only want to maintain the environment but improve it for future generations. Quite a noble
statement in these modern times. Their Zinfandel is a wine for those looking to indulge a bit. An opulent and decadent
wine brimming with red fruits and chewy tannin, that at the same time manages to stay fresh and focused.

Joel Gott Zinfandel 2011 Region: California, USA
Winemaker: Alisa Jacobson Style: Flashy American
Notes: American Zinfandel has never been a highly sought after product, the issue has always been overripe cooked flavours, at the least that was the case with most
coming to Australian shores. What impressed us with the Joel Gott Zin, was its ability to showcase the distinct varietal features of ripe red fruits and plum jam, but with
good acidity and freshness to keep it in check.

Pillar Box Red 2010Region: Padthaway, SA
Winemaker: Kim Jackson Varietals: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon
Style: Consistent Crowd Pleaser
Notes: A great all-rounder that has been one of EEC's top value wines for almost a decade. Consistently smooth and spicy, it's a medium bodied wine with ripe fruit flavours and soft round tannins. Spicy Shiraz notes
are decorated with a touch of cherry, plum and oak. The Cabernet then comes in holding the shape with a good
ripe tannin structure and well-rounded finish.
