The image of the boat was taken at struis baai on our way back from congress the weather was stormy I used my Nikon 7000 and my 18-200mm Nikon lens manual exposure, F16 Iso 100. Auto white balance.
I worked both images in Nik colour efex pro, I then blended them together in Photoshop, adding a vignette on the edges of the image.

Underground Cistern This is the underground cistern in Istanbul, used in both the Dan Brown books and James bond movie. Taken with my Canon EOS1000D and my EFS-18-55mm kit lens at 18mm and F3.5, ISO 1600 and 0.5s exposure. I was really struck by the symmetry and the repeating pattern of the columns, but loved the texture of the different surfaces. Conversion to Mono in Lightroom highlighted those aspects nicely and added a slightly otherworldly feel.

Junior Colour Image of the month – Billy Mills “Forming the seeds”
While in Hogsback an azalea flower was found, which had already lost its petals but the red stigma was still perfectly preserved. The specimen was set up in a soft light environment and a small LED light was positioned behind the basal section of the flower. This provided the translucent affect on the ovum and highlighted the darker seeds forming in the ovary sac. The photo was taken with a Nikon D7100 and a Nikkor 105mm Macro lens set in manual at an aperture of F16, a shutter speed of 2.5 sec and an ISO of 100. The post processing was done in Photoshop CC.

Cover monochrome image “ Charge “by Wally Devos
This photograph was taken during the bull festival in Le Cres in the south of France. One of the events during the festival is the running of the bulls. In this event, three or four bulls are brought into the street surrounded by five riders on horseback. The horses are white in dramatic contrast to the black bulls. The bulls are then let loose for the young men in the street to catch. This image was taken just prior to them being released, hence the concentration on the riders’ faces and the tension in the horses.
The photographic conditions were difficult in that you either had bright sunlight or deep shadows. The bright sunlight burned out the horses and I had to take the image when the horses were in the shadows. Therefore I had to use a high ISO setting in order to have a fast shutter speed and thus freeze the action.
