Did You Know? We do have a wheelchair available in church for anyone who may need it while here at Mass. It is located in the “bride’s room.” Simply ask an usher for any assistance.

We Would Love to Have You as Parishioners! If you are new to the area, or just haven’t gotten around to it, we invite you to register as full members of the Gesu community. Simply call the parish office at (216) 932-0617 and someone can set up a time to meet and register you! If you have grown up in the parish and are now 23 (or older), we encourage you to register as an adult and not merely as children of parishioners.

Note Special Mass Schedule Each year in early June, the Jesuits gather for Province Days with their fellow Jesuits, culminating in the celebration of Ordination. Unique to this year is the official merging of the Chicago-Detroit Province and the Wisconsin Province into what will now be called the Midwest Province. Almost all the Jesuits who live and work in the Greater Cleveland area will be in Milwaukee for this important gathering. Consequently, please note that there will be a change to the Mass schedule for a few days. On Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2 there will be only one morning liturgy at 8:30 am. On Saturday, June 3, we will not have Confessions at 3:00 pm, but the 4:30 pm Mass will be celebrated as usual.

New Servers You may notic e some ‘extra’ altar servers at Masses. We are pleased that students in 5th & 6th grades at Gesu School and in PSR are completing their two required observations by shadowin g regular server s . Several have completed this process and will soon be serving regularly. We are grateful for them and all of our servers.

Diocesan Young People Survey The Catholic bishops of the world are planning to meet in October 2018 for the 15th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. The theme of this gathering is “Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment.” In prepara-tion for this major synod on youth, Pope Francis wants to gather input from the Catholic faithful. Consequently, the Diocese of Cleveland has made available a survey questionnaire to gather information on the current state of the young in our diocese that will be included as part of the pre-synod discernment document. The survey can be found on the diocesan website home page, www.dioceseofcleveland.org. All are invited and encouraged to participate by taking this short survey. The bishops of the United States pray that the results of this survey will help them more fully understand the experience of young people in our Church and in our country; their hopes, dreams, fears and struggles so that the synod may bear fruit in offering more insight and direction to our ministry with young people.

Psssst... Fr. Thomas will be leaving Gesu in early July for India to visit his family. His next assignment will take him elsewhere. Please watch for some news about a special reception for him in June! Dr. Joe Metzinger will be retiring at the end of June after many years here at Gesu as music director! Please watch for some news as well!

Faith Formation

Contact the Faith Formation CommissionTo learn more, email [email protected] or [email protected] or call the Parish Office.

In the Jesuit Tradition God gave the greatest gift: Himself. In these past weeks, we have experienced liturgically the fullness of this gift. In today’s Gospel, Jesus reassures His apostles with great love and concern that He is not abandoning them. He avows that He will still be with them, but in a different way: “You will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.” How difficult this concept must have been for them. Likewise, we do not fully understand but we find solace in His words. Ignatian spirituality teaches us to find God in all things. Jesus’ farewell discourse to His apostles proclaims that God is indeed in all things. He invites us to open ourselves to the depth of this relationship. We are greatly loved by our Creator, “and whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”

Mass Response Cards You will notice that there are some larger Mass “response” cards at the doors of the church for those who may have trouble reading the smaller print in our Gather hymnal.

WUJA Congress at John Carroll The World Union of Jesuit Alumni (WUJA), founded in 1956, holds an international Congress every four years to gather Jesuit friends and alumni—from as many as 50 countries representing a global network of Jesuit ministries-to build international networks and affirm Jesuit centric values for a greater good. From June 28-July 2, WUJA will meet for the first time ever in North America, at John Carroll University. The congress features addresses from the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ via live-feed and will also will gather renowned, world-class speak-ers such as Fr. Tim Kesicki, SJ, Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ and Chris Lowney. Attendees, made up of alumni and friends of Jesuit institutions from across the globe, will enjoy countless opportunities to connect, learn and celebrate. For regis-tration and info, visit www.wujacongress2017.org.

Ignatian Prayer & Faith Sharing Our next evening of Ignatian Prayer & Faith Sharing is Wednesday, May 24 at 7:00 pm in the Sacred Heart Room. Come for an experience of prayer in the Ignatian tradition as we reflect on the Gospel of Matthew 28:16-20: The Ascension of the Lord. The evening will include small group faith sharing, and the Examen. If you would like to participate, email Hilda at [email protected]. All are welcome!!

Gesu School Scrip Program A Gesu School fund raiser, the Great Lakes Scrip Program, is open to the parish! By simply making your regular household purchases through this program (gas, groceries, prescriptions, and any other retail purchases including restaurants, hotels, and movie theaters) you can assist in continuing to provide a successful envi-ronment for our students and teachers.
