From the General Manager...April signals warmer temperatures and the official start of our season at Bermuda Run.
Operationally, we finish up our off- season projects and extend our operating hours to
take full advantage of spring’s arrival. For the members, this is a time of year when the
Men’s and Women’s Golf Associations and Tennis activities resume full speed, as well
as celebrate Easter weekend with the traditional Saturday Easter Egg Hunt and Sunday
Brunch.
Due to your increased participation in Saturday’s Easter Egg Hunt, we’ve added to the
event to make it bigger and better than ever. In addition to the traditional Saturday
brunch we’ve added a “festival” with two bounce houses, petting zoo, balloon artist,
games and activities from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the Easter Egg Hunt. Please find
additional details regarding this event elsewhere in this newsletter.
This is an exciting time at Bermuda Run Country Club and we look forward to what the
future has in store. Please save the date, as we’ve scheduled our Annual Member
Meeting for April 29.
I look forward to seeing you around the club. Please do not hesitate to contact me
with any questions or concerns you may have at 336.998.8155 or by emailing me at

As we get into the golf season, the Golf and Greens Committees wanted to remind everyone of a
few basic golf course guidelines for the upcoming year.
Only use range balls at the practice facility and not on the golf course.
Always check in with the golf shop before going out to play.
Keep all golf carts on the paths around the tees and greens and follow any golf cart guidelines posted for that particular day.
When playing par 4’s and par 5’s, please exit the fairway at or before the fairway post and proceed directly to the golf cart path.
Keep golf carts on the paths for all par 3’s.
With spring upon us, much of our winter projects are complete. Seems like every winter we are breaking records. This winter was very mild as compared to last year, but all changed in mid-February. This February was the second coldest February in history for the Winston-Salem area. Even with the cold temperatures, staff worked diligently this winter to complete numerous projects such as mulch, tree work, wetlands and annual bunker maintenance. Now with the warmer weather, our mowing practices will begin. There will not be a change in heights of cut this year in any of our primary golfing areas. We lowered the heights of cut on our tees and fairways last year to very positive reviews. Our fairways will be mowed at a height of 0 .4” and our tees and approaches will be mowed at 0.3”. Roughs will remain at a height of 1.5”. Our greens on both courses will be maintained much the same as last year will little or no change. There will be a slight change in our maintenance practices this year on our practice tees. For years, the normal fertilization practices have been to fertilize every two to three weeks depending on the type of product used. Due to the increase in play and coupled with the small size of our practice tee, we will adopt a very aggressive fertility program. This year we will treat the practice tees as a “grow-in”. This is a term used by Superintendents during a construction project to quickly grow in turf. We have changed some of our fertility products, and now will fertilize the range tees every three to four days, paying particular attention to the areas that were recently used. A few courses in the region have adopted this practice with success. We feel that we will have a much better surface this year for our members, but we will still have some limitations on quality due to amount of use and the size of our practice tees. As always, if we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.

Tennis Tip: Backboard TrainingDid you know that we have a hitting wall/backboard on Tennis Court #1? A tennis backboard is a great practice tool which allows you to hit lots of tennis balls while working on correct technique, footwork, consistency and conditioning. By going out and challenging yourself to hit as many balls as possible while focusing on footwork and technique, you will build endurance and tennis stroke memory that will pay off for you during match play. Challenge yourself to hit specific target areas on the backboard as many times as possible. You may find by putting in the extra practice and
hitting with the partner that never misses, the backboard, match play against a “live” opponent becomes much easier.
Suggested Drills:1. Our backboard at Bermuda Run has four panel sections. When you are hitting, try and hit five balls into each section as you move across the board. To make it even more challenging, try hitting all forehands or all backhand shots as you move from panel to panel.
2. A numbers game: Pick a number, for example 25 consecutive hits, and attempt to hit that many shots in arow without missing; all forehands, all backhands or alternating forehands and backhands.
Remember to have fun, and happy hitting! Bret
