Introduction
In this presentation our main goal is to show some features of the romanian culture:

Food
Eating habits in Romania were deeply influenced by the people, specially nomads, hungarians and germans, who settled in that territory.
Food As Romania was under turkish domain for
many years, is still has today several turkish dishes, such as:

Romanian gastronomy received other influences from Greece, France and the from slavic nations, although they aren’t as important as the turkish one.

Corn was always a reference, as far as agriculture is concerned.
That is why polenta and Mamaliga (corn puree with a vinegar salad) are amongst the most popular dishes in Romania.

we can find: Carnatzlach (meat pudding), Ciorba de Pui (sour chicken soup), Honey Tarts (honey pie), Blintzes made of romanian bread, Ciorba (traditional soup), Cozonac (sweet fermented bread) Eggplant salad.
Costumes
As far as the traditional costume is concerned, the most important piece of clothing for men and women is a shirt made of linen, wool or hemp.
The shirt is tied around the waist with a kind of belt called brau.

The women’s traditional costume includes a shirt, which used to reach the ankles, also tied around the waist by a band, and an apron.

The traditional men’s costume includes a white shirt and trousers, a hat, a belt and a vest or jacket. The shirts are usually loose over the trousers.

Traditional costumes change according to the part of the country.
The differences usually relate to the shirt’s lenght, embroidery work, shape of the hat, etc.

have been abandoned throughout the XX century, such as the leather sandals, worn peasants.

However, there are some villagers who still mantain the habit of dressing the traditional costumes, specially older people and some young women on sundays.

Emma Dumitrescu, a romanian bride, detains the record of the longest weedding dress train (cauda – 3 kilometers).
Folklore
Romanian folklore, music, costumes and dance, has changed a lot over the last 500 years.
However, it is very much alive today because of its teaching from one generation to the next.

Dance also has a spiritual meaning. The costumes were imagined and created
according to popular legends and beliefs, still very much alive today.

Folklore is always present in national celebrations and it represents people’s pride in romanian culture.
