Cases Updates: The purpose of this travel notice is to notify travelers that a small number of Ebola cases were recently reported in Lagos and Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The government of Nigeria responded quickly, and this outbreak was contained to a small number of cases. Contacts of people who were infected with Ebola in Nigeria have also been monitored for signs of illness. All people in Nigeria who were sick with Ebola have now either died or recovered. Contacts of these patients have completed their 21-day monitoring period and are no longer at risk for getting sick with Ebola.

Cases Updates: Patient initially sought care August 18 but did not disclose travel history. He continued as an outpatient until August 25, receiving intravenous fluids and other symptomatic treatment. On August 26, he was admitted to a specialized hospital for Ebola testing. October 15, 2014: Senegal have not reported any new cases since August 29, 2014, respectively. All contacts have now completed their 21-day follow up, with no further cases of Ebola reported.

Entry Restrictions: On September 30, 2014, the US confirmed its first imported case of EVD, from a patient who had recently travelled from West Africa. The patient has since died. Thorough contact tracing is underway and health screening will be put in place at five major US airports for travellers arriving from Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Cases Updates: September 30, 2014, the first laboratory-confirmed case of Ebola to be diagnosed in the United States in a person who had traveled to Dallas, Texas from West Africa. The patient did not have symptoms when leaving West Africa, but developed symptoms approximately four days after arriving in the United States.

On October 10, a healthcare worker at Texas Presbyterian Hospital who provided care for the index patient reported a low-grade fever and was referred for testing. The healthcare worker has tested positive for Ebola according to preliminary tests by the Texas Department of State Health Services’ laboratory. The healthcare worker was isolated after the initial report of a fever. CDC confirms that the healthcare worker is positive for Ebola. CDC did not recommend that people on the same flights as the index patient undergo monitoring because the index patient did not exhibit symptoms of Ebola during the flights from West Africa. Ebola is only contagious if the person is experiencing active symptoms.

The healthcare worker was isolated after the initial report of a fever and remains so now. The hospital and healthcare worker were notified of the preliminary positive result. In addition, CDC has interviewed the healthcare worker to identify any contacts or potential exposures in the community.

Kenya

Entry Restrictions: On 10 October announced that it had closed the Suam border crossing (Trans-Nzoia county) with Uganda due to reports of an Ebola-related death in Bukwo district (Uganda). Earlier, the Kenyan authorities on 19 August suspended entry of passengers travelling from and through Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, excluding health professionals supporting efforts to contain the outbreak and Kenyan citizens.

Cases Updates: The government of Cape Verde has announced restrictions on travel into the country by non-residents who have been in countries affected by the Ebola virus in the last 30 days. These restrictions will remain in place for the coming three months, after which time the government will reassess the situation.

Mauritius

Entry Restrictions: On 8 October banned entry to all travellers who have visited Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, Senegal and Congo (DRC) in the last two months, rather than just citizens of those countries, as was the case previously. The authorities have announced that entry restrictions for travellers from Senegal and Nigeria will be lifted on 10 October and 17 October respectively, if no further cases of Ebola infection are reported.

This includes Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Mali, Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Congo, DRC, Gambia, Mauritania, and Senegal. Seychelles has implemented travel restrictions to Ebola affected countries. All Seychellois nationals will not be allowed to travel to Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, Nigeria or the DRC without the express permission of the Public Health Commissioner until the epidemic has officially been deemed to be over by the World Health Organization (WHO). Travellers from these countries will not be allowed to enter Seychelles until the epidemic has been deemed over.

South  Africa

Entry Restrictions: Member states – Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe – have stated that travellers coming from Ebola-affected countries (according to the World Health Organisation, WHO) would be monitored for 21 days and that travel to member countries for any gatherings would be discouraged. The SADC provided no details as to how member countries will carry out the associated screening and follow-up and it is likely that countries will have individual processes. There are also reports that some countries require health documentation for entry. Travellers are advised to contact the embassy or health ministry of their destination country to clarify their individual circumstances and prepare their trips accordingly.

Cases Updates: Travel restrictions: South Africa has issued a travel ban for all non-citizens travelling from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone in an attempt to prevent the spread of Ebola into South Africa. Non-citizens will only be allowed into South Africa when travelling from these high-risk countries if the entry into the country is considered 'absolutely essential'. The South African Department of Health has issued a travel advisory against all but essential travel to Liberia, Guinea or Sierra Leone.
