ECHORefuse collectionfor informalsettlements

ECHO REPORTERINFORMAL settlements and households in the Greater Edendale area whose refuse was not collected by the municipalitybefore, will now be provided with refuse removal services, through Small Medium Micro Enterprises (SMMEs).Households will be charged at R15 each,

Speaking at an Exco meeting, municipal manager Mxolisi Nkosi said: “These are areas which are inaccessible by our municipal trucks. They include areas such as Pata, Snathing, Georgetown, Dambuza, Ashdown and others”.SMME’s are to be used in these areas, because the municipality’s large compactor trucks could not go into them, as therewere no proper roads”.

The moral aspect of this responsibility is underpinned by the eightprinciples of Batho Pele.

TALKINGFOOTBALL

IT is important for those inpositions tolead by example. The most importantunit in football isaclub.DannyJordan,SafaPresident, forinstancecannottalkdevelopment if he is not himself in-volved at club level.

We cannot tell people about things

Weall get surprisedwhentherearenoSouthAfrican teams in internation-al competitions. If your own sons anddaughters arenot playing, whodo youexpect to play for this country? Themindsetsmust change if ourcountry isto progress. The majority of us thinkthat theworld owes us everything.Weseemtobelievethatsomeoneout theremust sort things out for us. Every indi-vidual within communities must takethe responsibility.

Oneistoosmallanumbertodoany-thing of significance. We are alwayslooking for Messiahs to take us to thePromised Land. If it is not Mandela, itis Danny Jordan. There is not muchthat individuals can do to change thesituation.

Thepower lieswith all of us.DannyJordancannotformaclubinyourcom-munity, train children, feed them,pro-vide equipment, motivate them in

matchesetc. The futuresuccessofanychild depends on the support early inlife.

Theysaytalkischeap.Footballpeo-pleare talkingabout junior leagues forbothboysandgirls. It is not possible tohave leagueswhentherearenoteams.

We have a very abnormal situationwhere universities playwomen’s foot-ball and yet our junior schools havenoprogrammes for football.

We even have a Banyana Banyana–NationalWomenTeam, yet there areno teams and competitions for younggirls. South Africa claims to be themost progressive nation.

We have women in top positionsbothingovernmentandprivatesector. It is worth noting that there are somany boys’ football competitions atschool level, yet nothing for the girls.Yes, talk is cheap, doing is a differentstory. Unzima lo mthwalo!

thatwearenotexpe-riencing ourselves.There isnoindividu-al that does not be-long to a particularcommunity.

Political, civicand sports leadersmust take a lead inthe development ofsports in this coun-try. One does notneed to be involvedon day to day busi-ness of a club. How-ever, it is not correctthatpeoplepoint fin-gerswithout playingsome role.

Generally, SouthAfricans are toobusy chasing powerandfortunes.Weareall calling for grass-roots football to benurtured. I still haveto see 7 and 9 yearolds thatarecapableof organising train-ing and matches.

ONE IS TOO SMALL A NUMBER TO DO ANYTHINGOF SIGNIFICANCE. WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FORMESSIAHS TO TAKE US TO THE PROMISED LAND.IF IT IS NOT MANDELA, IT IS DANNY JORDAN.

AmaZulu not in crisis

IFyouthoughtlosing7-1toMamelodiSundownsafort-nightagoandanother2-0defeatbyMaritzburgUnited,meant that AmaZulu were in a crisis, you got it allwrong.

Usuthu spokesman, Philani Mabaso says althoughtherecentscoresweregivingawrongpictureabout theteam’s performance, the situation was all under con-trol. Mabaso insistshismanagementwas intouchwiththe technical teamunder theheadcoach,CraigRossleeand life at the camp is normal.

“Suchthingshappensinsoccer.Daysarenotalwaysrosy or smooth. I agreewe lost two games in a row, butit does notmean thatwe are in a crisis or experiencingproblems.

“Webelievewe lostbecauseourdefencecommittedanumberofmistakes.Soccer is likethat, ifyoucommit-tee errors you get punished by your opponents,” saidMabaso.

Mabaso says his management trust and supportRosslee and were positive that the mistakes are goingto be rectified.

Rossleebelieveshisdefencehas improvedsincego-ing down 7-1 to Sundowns.

“Althoughwe again lost to United, our defencewaslooking better. Our opponents scored two goals

because we made two defence errors at the back.”Rosslee says the whole team needs to double their

effort in the field of play and always stay on top of thegame.

“It’s just amatter of beingmore alert all round andin all departments,” he says.
