Dear All,

Less than one week to go until our annual winter concert—so please keep Thursday, 14th December free and come

and join us and be seated for 13:00 at The College of Geodesy and Cartography, 13 Molodogvardeiskaya Street.

The student council has been busy this term and despite a hectic week of concert rehearsals we would like to share

some information about the work they have been supporting with this term. If you recall early in November the Stu-

dent council raised over 3000 rubles for the Royal British Legion, this money has been collected and is already being

used to support those in need. Another successful event this term, was the Pyjama Day where as a having a very com-

fortable day in school we also raised 8000 rubles. Today, the money was collected by representatives from Speransky

Children’s Hospital, who shared with us how the money will support their cause here in Moscow. As always this could

not be done without your support. So on behalf of the student council we would like to say a big, ‘Thank you!’.

Mr. Hannah and the Student Council

One last note, we are constantly looking for ways to improve the opportunities and experiences of every student

while they are with us. To this end, the marketing team have created a survey relating to ECAs and we would be very

grateful if you would take a few minutes to complete the survey emailed. As always, if you have any questions you are

always welcome to contact me.

Kindest regards,

Nicola Hemingway

This week we have enjoyed making ‘sweets’ for our Christmas performance and counting them to

see if we have enough for the bag. We wrote our names to make sure we had the right bag for

the concert! Also, this week, we have helped to decorate the Christmas tree with our favourite

coloured baubles and we have been watching the snowman and Santa taking care of the tree.

Reception

Man oh’ man have we had a good M week in the Pirates! We’ve read Japanese folk tales set

in the mountains and made our own Mt Fuji with giant triangles. In Maths we have been

estimating the height of objects before measuring with blocks, shoes and pencils to check our

estimates. We’ve been counting down the days until Santa or Дед Мороз visits and working

hard on our performance songs and dance to ensure Father Christmas knows we are doing

our best every day!

This week year 1 had a fun week with our topic unit on celebrations. We are learning

all about Swedish celebrations and the importance of the Swedish celebration

St. Lucia. It was also a very exciting week as the children hung the first baubles on the

Christmas tree with Mr. Santa Claus and Mr. Snowman watching us work.

In literacy this week, Year 2 learned how to form sentences using nouns and adjectives

and understood different types of grammatical patterns when writing and speaking. In

Maths, the children revised counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s using numbers and coins. They

also practiced something new this week and were very successful, adding three different

numbers together and working out how much change they would get from a certain

amount of money if they were to buy something. In science the class continued to learn

ways of how to present data collected from experiments. Year 2 drew some lovely graphs

in their books to show this and learned which materials are absorbent. In topic, the

children continued to learn facts about Greenland and practiced their

Winter Concert performance.

Year 3

In literacy the students have been working diligently focusing on characters thoughts and feelings

in stories. The students created questions for story book characters and after a lot of practice they

had the chance to interview the characters. The kids did a great job coming up with really relevant

questions, and the characters did a great job of answering them up in the hot seat.

Year 4 children worked hard on improving their literacy skills this week – students wrote the final

draft of their letters, and it is impressive how much everyone has improved their writing style

over the past term. In science lessons, we conducted an experiment with ice cubes to observe

the processes of melting and condensation. We have also continued with our rehearsals, and are

all excited to show you our wonderfully Cuban and festive Winter Concert next week!

Over the course of this week we have been working hard on our play for the production next week.

We have all been practicing and working with props to give the best performance we can. We all

enjoyed our materials investigation this week – where we investigated the insulation qualities of

different materials by testing how long it would take water to cool in cups that we wrapped with the

different materials we had chosen. For maths we have been working on angles and line graphs to

complement our science work.

Year 5

Year 6 deserve an award for how hard they have worked this week. In maths we have finished

this term’s objectives in preparation for up and coming test, whilst in English the children

completed their picture books and started a new guided reading rotation. The main focus of the

week was preparing for the winter concert—the children have been busy practicing all week.

We hope to see you all next Thursday at 13:00.
