It stand by its inherent values of quality, transparency and pursuit of excellence. We have started with two KGBVs now they are six and growing brick by brick.Every next day was a better day than the previous one. What were saplings have today bloomed into full fledged trees. I can well imanagined those initial years when we started the first KGBV with a few girls with V class only and less infrastructure. Today we have six KGBVs with 1042 girls and class V1 to Xth in hope that their buildings and all other facilities (Up gradation up to 10+2) in terms of well equipped hostel and class rooms. It is truly said, You have to have darkness for the dawn to come. I feel privileged to congratulate the entire faculty and students for their continuous support and contribution. Let us also thanks to the entire Team of SSA and RMSA especially to the Govt. of India for running such programmes in rural area like Mewat. Thereafter 14 new districts were notified from time to time by changing the boundaries of the existing districts. The Mewat district was carved out from erstwhile Gurgoan and Hathin Sub Division of Faridabad districts, which came into existence on April 4, 2005 as the 20th district of the Haryana State. After the formation of another district named Palwal, Hathin Sub-Division reshifted to Palwal. The district headquarter is located at Nuh. The district comprises five blocks namely Nuh, Tauru, Nagina, Firozpur Jhirka and Punhana. There are 431 villages in the district and 297 Panchayats. There are 512 villages and 365 Panchayats in Mewat area including Hathin Block of District Palwal. Profile of Mewat Slide 6 Historical Background Mewat - Land of the Meos, has its genesis in its tribal inhabitants, the Meo tribals, who are agriculturalist. The area is a distinct ethnic and socio-cultural tract.Meos The Meos, who trace their roots to the early Aryan invasion of Northern India, call themselves Kshatriyas and have preserved their social and cultural traits to a surprisingly large extent, unlike the other tribes of nearby areas. During the regime of the Tughlak dynasty in the 14th century A.D., these people embraced Islam but till today, they have maintained their age-old distinctive ethno-cultural identity. Historically, the region has been extremely turbulent and has been subject to repeated invasions and resultant plundering throughout the post-Vedic period, largely due to the situational peculiarity of the area and the non-sub-jugative attitude of the people. The destruction and devastation over the centuries resulted in backwardness and gross under-development of both the area and its proud people. Slide 7 Literacy The literacy rate in Mewat is comparatively low particularly in the case of female literacy. Literacy rate is 44.07% against State average of 67.91%, while female literacy rate is 24.26 against State average of 55.73%. Sex rati o The Male: Female sex ratio is also lower than the National average. In Mewat there are only 893 females to each 1000 male as against the national average of 1024 females per l000 males. Infant mortality rate in Mewat indicate similar backwardness rising up to 85 per 1000 in Punhana block, which has 80% Muslim community, as against the national average of 72 and 75 for the State of Haryana. Maternal mortality rates are not available, but considering the poor health facilities, large family size and the adverse sex ratio, it can be safely assumed that maternal mortality is high. Slide 8 Demography According to the Census of India 2001, the total population of Mewat was 9,93,617 (including Hathin Block of district Palwal) of which 46,122 (4.64%) lived in urban areas and the major chunk 9,47,495 (95.36%) of the population lived in rural areas. Out of the total population of 9,93,617, there are 5,24,872 males and 4,68,745 females. The SC population is around 78,802. The total numbers of households are 1,42,822 out of which 1,35,253 (95%) are in rural areas and remaining 7569 (5%) are in urban areas. The total number of BPL households are 53125 including Hathin Block. Economy The main occupation of the people of Mewat is agriculture and allied and agro-based activities. The Meos (Muslims) are the predominant population group and are completely agriculturists. They perceive themselves as such, with a sense of pride. The agriculture in Mewat is mostly rain fed except in small pockets where canal irrigation is available. Agriculture production measured in terms of crop yield per hectare in Mewat is comparatively low to the other districts of the State. Animal husbandry, particularly dairy is the secondary source of income for people of Mewat and those who live closer to the hilly ranges of Aravali also keep a few sheep and goats. Milk yields are not so low, however, due to heavy indebtedness most of the farmers are forced to sell the milk to the lenders at lower than normal price, which drastically reduces their income from the milk. The poultry population in Mewat is much less in comparison to other districts of Haryana State. Mewat has remained a region of backwardness even after independence. The area lags behind the rest of Haryana on almost every yardstick of development indices, even though the farthest point of Mewat is no farther than 145 km. from the National Capital of India. Slide 9 Looking at the success of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya run by Mewat Model Schools Society with coordination of Sarve Siksha Abhiyan, Looking at the success of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya run by Mewat Model Schools Society with coordination of Sarve Siksha Abhiyan, Nuh the flagship of Haryana programme of Govt. of Haryana & Govt. of India have introduced its upgraded model in the form of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya In the current academic session more KGBVs (New Residential Schools for Girls from SC/ST/OBC/ &/MINORITY) are to be opened across India. In Haryana 27 New KGBVs have been opened in its educationally Blocks of Districts. In the Mewat District the scheme is being implemented by the State Government through SSA and run by Mewat Model Schools Society, Nuh, Mewat Target Group for these schools(11-14)is girls for vulnerable group who have dropped out after class Vth mostely 2,3 years ago. Slide 10 Students Strength;KGBV:2006-2011 2006-07=315 Three KGBVs with 6 th classes only 2007-08=400 Three KGBVs with 6 to 7 classes only 2008-09=498 Six KGBVs with 6 to 8 classes only 2009-10=634 Six KGBVs with 6 to 8 classes only 2010-11=838 Six KGBVs with 6 to 9 classes only 2011-12=1038 Six KGBVs with 6 to 10 th classes only Slide 11 Supply of Materials/budget/funds may be released/done at the earliest/in the started of the new session for smooth running of KGBVs of Mewat: Office Furniture & all other basic requirements Necessary Stationary Materials for office & all KGBVs Necessary & basic requirements of class rooms with TLM. Sports & Games Materials (Indoor & Out door) Library Books with required furniture First Aid Box facilities with basic Medicines Arrangements of Winter Dress Slide 12 i Heath Checkup Camp: At the time of opening of KGBV all children may be undergone Medical checkup. For this purpose Doctor and other staff of Local Public Health Centers (PHE) may be directed their involvement where measures will be taken by providing medicines on free of cost. After that a Medical Profile for each girl is to be maintained mentioning the Major indicators like; weight,Height and any major or minor disease of the girls etc. Classroom Transactions: The classroom transactions and other relative activities of KGBV schools are fixed per the Academic Calendar (Almanac) prepared by the Head office. Introduction of activities like meditation, prayer, morning assembly, sports along with other recreational activities may be the reason of attraction towards joyful learning. Slide 13 Vocational Training For KGBV Girls: For all the KGBV necessary items for vocational training like- sewing machine, embroidery set along with required materials will be supply to all KGBVs in the beginning of Academic Session. Part Time Instructors may be engaged as per need to train the Girls in vocational activities. Following are some of the vocational activities; Stitching and Tailoring Knitting Embroidery Doll Making & Flower Making It may be mentioned here that some the vocational activities are to be conducted with the help of trained instructor engaged by SSA where other certain activities are to be conducted with the help of community. Last year theses activities were not conducted because of the Non-availability of Administrative approval and Budget from SSA, Panchkula Slide 14 Evaluation of Learners: To know the learning level of the children following evaluations will be conducted; Weekly evaluation to know the progress of learners and providing remedial support to the children whose learning achievement is slow. Mid Session evaluation and final evaluation as per Almanac The Final evaluation will be conducted in the KGBVs in the last month of the session (March) and children are promoted to the next higher class as per the outcome of the evaluation. Learners identified who achieved less than the required level of learning and accordingly subject wise and competency wise remedial support will be provided to the children by the concern teacher Slide 15 Supervision and Monitoring Regular supervision, monitoring and support will be provided to each KGBV by the Principal and Education Officer. Further, District Mission functionaries of SSA and Head Teachers (BO) of the nearby the schools regularly monitor the academic progress of the children. Apart from these, Quarterly Parents/Guardian meeting is also conducted in the centers to share the performance of the children and to discuss other center related issues. Supply of Computer, Television and DVD set Computers, Television and Educational DVD will be supplied to the each KGBV for upgrading the following areas: Motivation level of the children Promoting self-esteem of the Children Self confidence of the Children Learning of Good Habits Health, Hygiene and Cleanliness Slide 16 Co curricular and Recreational Activities With the help of community the children will learn various co curricular and recreational activities like; Dance and Drama Play, Song and Nazam Yoga and Meditation Self Defense Training Parents Teachers Meet Parents teachers meet will be conducted on regular basis every session quarterly in all six KGBVs to have discussion on different issues related to education and health of child. Sharing views on the progress of the children with guardian and other related issues. Slide 17 Library books along with book shelve: In all KGBVs there is no Library, sufficient Childrens reading books may be supplied for promoting reading habits of the children. Necessary book shelves also are to be provided to the centers. Stipend for the Children : As per the budget provision children were given the stipend @ Rs. 600/- per annum per Child. This stipend helps the children to meet up their essential needs and also some personnel expenditure. As the children could spent this amount on their own choice this help them in terms of decision making capacity and prioritizing the essential need which helps in their capacity building in personnel life. Release of Infrastructure grant, Maintenance grant for school and TLM for teachers: SSA, Haryana has not released the Infrastructure grant, Maintenance grant for school and TLM for teachers for the year 2010-11. These three grants helped to solve some important needs of the centers likemaintaining hygiene in drinking water. Slide 18 Review of Salary of all Teachers KGBVs Review of Salary of all Teachers KGBVs was held in 2008-09, SSA where the teachers are imparted various inputs in management issues with 45 periods in a week. Computer Education in KGBV: Computer Aided learning is successfully implemented in all Mewat Model Schools from the year 1998-99. There is a separate computer Laboratory in each school. The impact of providing Computes to the M M Schools is quite satisfactory as all the children are found to be keen towards use of Computers and Computer Aided Learning. This must be implemented in all six KGBVs of Mewat. Musical Instruments to KGBVs: Musical instruments like Dholok, Harmonium, Tabla, Ghunguru may be provided to each of the KGBVs. These materials will be provided with an objective to strengthen the children of KGBVs in co-curricular activities. Slide 19 Alternative Power Provision: To meet with the problem of frequent power disruption, all the 06 KGBVs may be provided with Power Generators. Necessary ground work is already completed in this matter because it has been supplied in all Mewat Model Schools. Sanction of 3 Post of Teachers: To meet with the problem of acute shortage of teachers 3 posts of teachers for new classes ie.1X and X is pending from last session. Slide 20 Setting up of KGBVs under MMSS Name of the Blocks of Mewat District. Nuh Tauru F.P.Jhirka Nagina Punhana One KGBV is being run in Palwal District Hathin Hathin (Buraka Village) Slide 21 Safe and secure premises of Mewat Model Schools is provided in each block for running of KGBVs in its educationally backward and predominantly SC, ST block, till KGBV building is constructed. Arrangement are on, to prepare and procure necessary teaching learning material and aids for the schools. The entire staff of 36 teachers and 6 accountants are in place in 6 schools after a rigorous selection process consisting of written test and interview Appropriate systems is being put in place to provide necessary training and academic support and monitoring and supervision. Through motivation camps with parents and daughters, the girls have been identified and admitted in the schools. Other teachers Urdu-1 Accountant-1 Chowkidar/ Messenger-1 Slide 23 Selection of KGBV teachers and accountants is done by the MMSS & Selection Board constituted by the Chairman, MMSS-cum- Commissioner, Gurgaon Division Mewat. The selection committee comprised of: The Vice Chairman, MMSS (DC) Mewat SSA representative (DPC) Education Officer MMSS (Co-ordinator of KGBV) Two external subject experts O/S, Accountant There are 3 posts of teachers are lying vacant in each KGBV in Mewat still awaited for approval/sanction of these posts from SSA, Panchkula. V1 to X classes are being taken by only Six teachers or Mewat Model Schools Teachers. Slide 24 Presently Status of KGBVs as Day Scholar Due to non availability of hostel all girls come by bus provided by Mewat Model Schools Society to all six Mewat Model Schools in each Block of Mewat. Bus fee of KGBV girls is paid by the SSA (Maintenance Head). 55 Girls of KGBV Nuh, are enjoying the hostel facilities in the Girls hostel of Mewat Model School, Nuh. Free lodging & boarding facility is being provided by Mewat Development Agency to promote girls education in Mewat since 2004. There are 165 girls studying in Girls Hostel Mewat Model Senior Secondary School Nuh. Free of cost Coaching & Bridge courses are being provided in this hostel. Slide 25 KGBV of Mewat Analysis of the available KGBV designs was done. On the request of MMSS, Haryana, the Government has allowed to revise the school designs to integrate child friendly features, including making it more friendly to differently children like providing for ramps etc. SSA. Panchkula Authority & MDA Authority is in the process of beginning the construction of KGBVs. Till then, safe and secured premises of Mewat Model Schools have been used in each block for the running Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya. Each block has been allotted 3 Acre Land on the Name of each KGBV of Mewat by the Mewat Model Schools Society. Premises of the same school is being used for all activities i.e. Sports, Co-curricular and as per the Alamance of KGBV of 2011-12. Education is being imparted from V1 to X class and Students Strength is-164. Formative & Summative Test will be conducted as per the schedule given in Alamance of KGBV. At present, it is also under discussion whether Bridge Course for 1 months (Summer Break) would be advisable to concentrate on Maths, English and Science this would provide scope for revision of primary, as well as provide a solid foundation for studying further in all subject, But due to Low emoluments it disappointed us as pressure on the teachers.
