Game NotesLast Time Out: The Elmira College women’s volleyball team is coming off their second consecutive win as the Purple and Gold defeated Alfred University, 3-1. Elmira’s victory over the Saxons extended the Soaring Eagles’ win streak against Alfred to 23 matches, a mark that dates back to the 2000 season.

Home Finale: Tonight’s match marks the final home contest of the 2014 season for the Soaring Eagles. Since 2001, Elmira has gone 4-9 in home finales, but the Purple and Gold have seen more success in recent years as EC has posted a 2-1 record in home finales over the last three years.

Moving Parts, No Problem: Kelsey Ross ’16 has spent the majority of the 2014 season as Elmira’s libero, and for good reason as she leads the team with a career-best 243 digs. However, against Alfred University, Ross made the move from libero to outside hitter, a move that paid divi-dends for Elmira as Ross registered a career-high 16 kills to lead EC to their second conference win of the year.

Season-High for EC: In Elmira’s 3-1 win over Alfred, the Soaring Eagles, as a team, posted a .208 hitting percent-age, a season-high for the Soaring Eagles.

Series History: Elmira and Penn Tech have played each other four times since their first meeting in 2011. The Soaring Eagles own a decisive 4-0 advantage in the series history. Of Elmira’s four wins, three have come in the form of 3-0 victories.

Looking Ahead: Following tonight’s match, the Soaring Eagles will hit the road to compete in the Hunter College Tri-Match on Saturday, October 18th. Elmira will face host Hunter College at 12:00 p.m. before facing Rutgers-Camden in the 2:00 p.m. match.

Game NotesA Look at the Wildcats: The Wildcats of Pennsylvania Col-lege of Technology enter tonight’s match with an 8-13 over-all record. Penn Tech is coming off two consecutive wins, both victories coming against Bryn Athyn College. The wins over Bryn Athyn snapped an eight match losing streak.

Dual Threat: Courtney Gernert ’15 and Samantha Pogash ’18 have been the focal points of the Wildcats’ offense. Gernert leads the team with 198 kills while Pogash is sec-ond with 127, making the two the only Penn Tech players with over 100 kills on the season.

Defensive Efforts: Not only has Gernert been having a standout year on offense, she has also excelled on the de-fensive side of things. She leads the Wildcats with 273 digs and is averaging 3.90 digs per set, the fifth highest average in Penn Tech’s conference, the North Eastern Athletic Con-ference (NEAC).

Struggles Away From Home: Penn Tech owns a respectable 5-5 record when playing on their home court at Lewis H. Bardo Gymnasium. However, the Wildcats have not fared as well when playing away from home as they have posted a 3-8 road record, a mark that includes a 1-2 showing in true road contests.
