Statewide Emerging Technologies (ET) Program

» Creates a pipeline of new Energy Efficiency (EE) measures through “technology push and market pull.”

» Drivers: CPUC EE Program Decision California Long Term Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan AB 32 Greenhouse Gas Reduction

» Focus is on advanced natural gas end-use technologies

» Investor-owned utilities (IOUs): » PG&E, SCE, SDG&E, & SoCalGas

» Municipal Utilities:LADWP, SMUD

Definition of Emerging Technologies

» Early commercialized products, tools, equipment or systems

» Innovative products or efficiency measures» Products in early adaptation stage; under

utilized» New applications » New system and holistic approach

4

The EE Supply-Demand Chain

» R&D – ET – EE » ET ~ act like a “Consumer Reports” of new equipment technologies

» Focus - Commercialized end-use products

» ET is the pipeline leading to EE rebate incentive measures

5

Take a holistic approach to various projects: Technology assessments (field and lab) Scaled field placements Demonstration buildings Outreach and technology incubation CEC and CPUC goals and standards support

Collaborate with other IOU ETP’s to achieve CEC goals; engaging: Customers and industry players 3rd party and SoCalGas internal evaluators Other utilities and municipalities Universities and research institutions
