GUIDELINES FOR ENERGY MANAGEMENT
EPA consolidated best practices from thousands of organizations into one step-by-step road map for continuous improvement.
STEP 1: Make Commitment STEP 2: Assess Performance STEP 3: Set Goals STEP 4: Create Action Plan STEP 5: Implement Action Plan STEP 6: Evaluate Progress STEP 7: Recognize Achievements
ENERGY POLICY
Energy Acronym:
T Take command of our energy usage R Reduce energy intensity by 25 percent in 10 years I Identify & implement energy efficiency projects to meet goals
M Measure and review progress to achieve goals B Be a champion of Best Practices and training T Take energy performance into consideration for new/modified equipment & processes for plant U Uphold legal and other requirements concerning energy
ENERGY ACTION PLAN
ENERGY TREASURE HUNT• 2-3 day event to identify low/no cost
energy savings opportunities • Sub teams formed and focus on
OPERATIONS• Plant utilities• Process/Operations• Auxiliary equipment
• Summary presentation to plant management

IN-PLANT TRAINING
In-Plant Trainings (INPLTs) are system-specific workshops led by Better Plants experts that train participants on how to identify, implement, and replicate energy-saving projects.
Better Plant partners host an on-site, three-day training at one of their facilities, and invite others to attend. The training traditionally focus around a topic such as: Compressed air, Fans, Motor-driven systems,
Steam, Process heating, Pumps, Energy Management/ISO 50001

INDUSTRIAL ASSESSMENT CENTERS
Small- and medium-sized manufacturers may be eligible to receive a no-cost assessment provided by DOE Industrial Assessment Centers (IACs).
Teams located at 28 universities around the country conduct the energy audits to identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and save energy.
IACs train the next-generation of energy savvy engineers, more than 60 percent of which pursue energy-related careers upon graduation.
IAC assessments are in-depth evaluations of a facility conducted by engineering faculty with upper class and graduate students from a participating university.
