Enmax Legacy Parks Program — Project: Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is one of Calgary’s most popular parks. It is one of the oldest gazetted bird sanctuaries in western Canada (1929) as a result of the 1919 Migratory Bird Convention Act, an international treaty for the protection of birds. The historic Colonel Walker house on the site is limited for public use due to its lack of water and sewer infrastructure. Design work to upgrade the servicing, house and general surroundings has been completed to allow for greater use and programming of the building. Budget: $420K Enmax Legacy Parks funding was used for planned service upgrades. Timeline: Design work is complete. Benefits: The Colonel Walker House is a heritage house in the bird sanctuary. Providing servicing will allow for programming and future use of this home by the public. Bow River at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary (above) and children at “Bird School” (right) Inglewood Bird Sanctuary
