Dear Faith Family,
It truly has been a crazy couple of months!
As you may know, Britney (our Middle School Minister) and I got married in August. Our wedding dayand the festivities leading up to it were absolutely beautiful, with friends and family from around theglobe traveling to celebrate with us. It was truly one of the best weekends of my life.
Included in our friends and families were various parishioners who were able to attend our wedding andreception. The dynamics of wedding invitations are difficult; it’s always a tough position to have anevent that you couldn’t invite everybody to. It was very discouraging when Britney and I were goingthrough the guest list, knowing that we can’t invite everybody. There was no doubt that someone wouldbe offended, right?
On the day of our wedding, as mass was about to begin, with the butterflies of excitement going throughmy stomach, I took a peek at those who had attended our mass, and much to my surprise, there was avast amount of people, who were not invited to the reception, that showed up simply because theywanted to support us. Not trying to sneak into the reception, or to show the disapproval of not beinginvited, but to simply show up to show love and support. This was truly amazing and I am extremelyhumbled by this act of love.
In Father Patrick’s homily at our wedding, he mentioned that he prays Britney and I will become saints. With the strength of the sacrament that we received and with all the love and support that we havereceived unconditionally, we hope to live not only our individual lives, but our now collective lives inthe name of Jesus.
Britney and I first met at Padre Serra and it is where our relationship began. We attended mass together, helped in ministry and attended the various events of fellowship together. Padre Serra is truly our home;it is our beginning and hopefully our end. It is not hyperbole to say that all of this would not havehappened if it weren’t for this parish and the parishioners who we love.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your support, but mostly, thank you for beingliving examples of Christ’s love. People say marriage can be difficult, but Isee so many holy people at Padre Serra that it can’t help but give us theblueprint of living holy lives.
God Bless,
Brett BeckerYouth and Young Adult Minister
