Introduction These webquests are designed to expand both vocabulary and cultural knowledge of the English speaking world. The level of Internet English is generally higher than elementary. However the activities are designed to make it accessible to elementary level students. It is not essential that students understand every word to complete the activities. A dictionary will be useful. Students will find all the information they need directly on the webpage link. They do not need to browse the website, except during activity 3. Due to the nature of the Web, sites change frequently. Please let us know if there are any broken links by writing to: mailto:[email protected] Activity 1 Students need to read the first three paragraphs of the website link to answer the multiple choice questions. Students do not need to understand every word to complete the task. Strong students could complete this as a timed activity. Answers a) b) c) c) b) Activity 2 This is a simple exercise. This activity encourages your students to be creative and imaginative and helps them to get to know each other better. They may need to revise how questions are formed. This is a speaking activity. This could be followed up with a writing activity about their partner. Activity 3 They need to know the future tense going to, and knowing the use of will would be helpful. Stronger students could improve their sentences by beginning with, first, then, after that and finally. Students will need structure for this activity. Give them a time limit to choose between 5 and 10 activities. Put the chosen activities in order and add up the cost. Next, write full sentences using going to. Add in the sentence starters mentioned above. Present your plans to the class or another group. Instead of presenting plans, students could write their own plans.
