2014 ETBU Statistics Texas Dallas 2, ETBU 0MARSHALL, Texas—After splitting games on the road last weekend, the East Texas Baptist University men’s soccer team came home Friday to take on Texas Dallas, one of the top teams in the ASC. The Comets came into the game with a record of 7-3-2 (2-1 ASC). Great goaltending by Juan Perales kept ETBU in the game during the first half, but ultimately it was not enough as ETBU gave up two second half goals to fall 2-0.

During the first half Perales made five saves, allowing no goals on eight shots from Texas Dallas. ETBU struggled offensively in the first half, with four shots and only one on goal. Still, behind the strength of Perales in net the teams went to half tied at zero.

Less than five minutes into the second half, UTD’s Will Collins was awarded a penalty shot; which he put into the back right corner of the net to give UTD a 1-0 lead. ETBU fought to get back in the game, with eight shots in the second half, including four on goal, but UTD goaltenders Joseph Weber and Tyler Cotter stood tall and saved all four. In the 71st minute UTD’s Michael Matthews got a steal on the ETBU side of the field, took it on net, Perales came out but couldn’t get to the ball in time and Matthews got the ball around Perales’ outstretched leg and powered the ball into the back of the net to put UTD up 2-0, which is how the game ended.

Ozarks 2, ETBU 0MARSHALL, Texas—For the second day in a row, the East Texas Baptist University men’s soccer team fell short on their home field by a score of 2-0. After Texas Dallas defeated them by that score Friday night, the University of the Ozarks did the same on Saturday.

ETBU controlled the possession for a good amount of the game and out-shot Ozarks 12-7 overall. ETBU had eight shots on goal to Ozarks’ four. Still, ETBU could not cash in on those opportunities as Ozarks goalkeeper Austin Benner played lights out, stopping all eight shots on goal.

Ozarks scored in the first half on a penalty shot by Thomas Mills in the 21st minute. That is all the offense there was in the first half as Ozarks took a 1-0 lead into intermission. In the second half, Ozarks scored off a corner kick that was headed into the goal by Shaun Keane, who was assisted by Mills, in the 56th minute. That was all the offense the second half would see as Ozarks went on to win 2-0.

ETBU will take the field next Friday at 8:00 p.m. against Louisiana College for Senior Day.
