MARSHALL, Texas—After a week off between games, the East Texas Baptist University men’s basketball team looked like it rested well as they lead the whole game; coming away with their second straight win at Ornelas to start the season by defeating Centenary 78-64.

Jamil Samuel led the way for ETBU with 18 points and 11 boards to go along with seven blocked shots, which set a new career high. It was his first double-double this season and fifth of his career. Erby Thompson was second with 11 points and Justin Felicia joined the two of them in double figures with 10 points. Anthony Davis and Junior Mitchell both had three assists to lead the team. Centenary was led in scoring by Caden Cheramie with 18 points, followed closely by Kendall Demouchet with 15 and Jacob Broussard with 13. The three of them combined for 46 of Centenary’s 64 points.

When asked about what Coach West said during the timeout following the Cen-tenary run in the second half, Samuel said, “Coach just said settle down and get back to what you’ve been doing, we’ve got a long way to play.”

ETBU locked down Centenary on the defensive end in the second half, holding them to just 32.4% shooting. ETBU shot 9 of 21 in the second half for a percent-age of 42.8%. For the game ETBU shot 25 of 57 for an overall percentage of 43.9% from the field, making it the second straight game with a shooting percent-age over 40%.
