ETBU 3, Sul Ross State 0

ALPINE, Texas—After sweeping their last four matches, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball rolled into Alpine for a match with Sul Ross State and from there rolled to their fifth straight win, 25-15, 25-13 and 25-8.

Mallory Sanders led ETBU in kills for the fifth time in six conference matches with ten. She added four digs and two blocks. Kolby Sharp was second in kills with eight, with four digs and two blocks, like Sanders. Adaeze Elonu led the team in blocks with three.

Hannah Jones tallied 26 of the 57 digs for ETBU, her second high-est mark of the season. She also recorded three assists on the night. The team defense as a whole has been fantastic over the last five matches, as ETBU held Sul Ross to an attack percentage of zero, and all others but Hardin-Simmons have had negative attack percentages.

After a shaky start in the first set, ETBU’s hitters settled down in the next two sets, only committing two errors in the last two sets, hitting .321 in the second set and .450 in the third.

Sul Ross State’s strongest suit as a team is service aces, but ETBU held them to only two for the match, a mark which ETBU would equal with Megan Elrod’s two service aces.

Attack errors plagued Sul Ross State as they gave away 20 points to ETBU in that category, but ETBU played relatively clean, only committing eight attack errors in the three sets. With this victory ETBU improves their record to 6-8 overall and 4-1 in ASC play.
