The meeting took place in Darmstadt from October 14 to 16, 2005. The most important decisions, made on the EUSA Executive Committee meeting, are: EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2006 BEACHVOLLEYBALL The deadline for the candidatures for the organisation of the 3 rd EUC Beach Volleyball has been postponed. The potential hosts are asked to send the bidding documents to the EUSA office until November 15 th , 2005. KARATE The Executive Committee decided to organise the EUC Karate biannually in the future. The next championship will be organised in 2007. The deadline for the bids is January 31, 2006. ROWING After the great success of the 1 st EUC Rowing and the proposal by the team leaders and EUSA Technical Dele- gate to organise the championship annually, the Executive Committee decided to attribute the organisation of the 2 nd EUC Rowing to Brive la Gaillarde (FRA). The event will take place from September 2 to 3, 2006. FOOTBALL (women) The Executive Committee agreed on the proposal by the organisers of the next EUC to apply the system of 7 play- ers per team in Football women. The member federations are asked to appoint the teams until December 31, 2005. Countries may also nominate the winner of this year. SEMINAR FOR THE ORGANISERS The EC considered organising an additional annual semi- nar for the organisers of EUSA events (EUC, Symposium, GA). Such a seminar will take place from February 4 to 6, 2006 in Eindhoven for the first time, and will contain information about standards and procedures of the organi- sation, sharing of best practice and networking. Two per- sons from each Organising Committee, EUSA Technical Delegates and EUSA EC representatives will be invited. EUSA PATRONAGE EUSA granted its patronage for a traditional tournament “EuroMilano 2005” to be held on November 18 and 19, 2005. Equally well at home on the Domestic and In-ternational circuits, Greg has done much behind the scenes to move BUSA to the position we enjoy to-day as the largest and most successful student sports as-sociation in Europe. SLOVENIAThe Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) signed con-tracts on cooperation on the field of the university sports with University of Primorska and Uni-versity of Maribor. SUSA will in partnership with universities and university sports associations in Maribor and Koper organise in the next 3 years two WUC (Table Tennis, Futsal) and one EUC (Futsal).

The President of SUSA spoke about the role of Slovenian University Sports Association and university sport in the field of higher education to the participants of the 8th ENAS Conference “The future demand of University Sports”,which was held from November 9-13, 2005 in Maribor. 80 people from 17 countries participated on the conference. Member NewsRUSSIAThe General Conference of the Russian Students Sports Union (RSSU) on its meeting held in Moscow on September 29 & 30, 2005, elected Mr. Oleg Matyt-syn, the Rector of the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism as the new President of the RSSU.

ALBANIAEUSA received the request from the Albanian Students Sports Association to join EUSA. The decision will be made on the next EUSA General Assembly in Wroclaw in December 2005.

EUSA GENERAL ASSEMBLYThe 7th EUSA General Assembly will take in Wroclaw (POL) from December 2 to 4, 2005. The agenda with the documents has already been sent to all EUSA federations. The delegates will discuss annual report of the Executive Committee and Student Commission, annual accounts and budget for 2006, activity plan and elect new Executive Committee.

EUSA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETINGSThe next EUSA Executive Committee meeting will be held in Wroclaw / POL on December 1 and 2, 2005.

EUSA SYMPOSIUMThe 4th EUSA Symposium took place in Madeira, in the City of Funchal from September 14th to 18th, 2005. Over 30 participants from 9 European countries took part on the event, which was organised on a high professional level. The conclusions from the Symposium are a part of the SCT report, which was already sent to EUSA member federations and will also be published on EUSA website. Since the EUSA EC decided to organise the Symposium on biannual basis in the future, the next event will take place in 2007.

a capacity of 9,952 beds housed the participants. 16 spon-sors supported the Games. In total some 38,366 people were accredited in 35 different categories. Totally 140 hours of broadcasting were transmitted, 1,213 Turkish and 180 foreign press members from 31 countries followed the Games. 22 stations broadcasted the Games worldwide. 143 teams competed at the Games with 357 thousand spectators supporting them. 1,385 news items about the Games were published; 98 per cent of them were positive. It is supposed that this news reached approximately 390 million people.

EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Although the programme of the European University Championships 2005 has not been completed yet (EUC Tennis still has to be held end of this month), we can be more than satisfied with participation this year. The number of countries participating at EUSA events increased once more in comparison to previous years. 25 EUSA member federations were present on the EUCs, where we had 50% more participants then last year.

EUSA Members Medal Distribution -Summer Universiade Izmir 2005

FISUSUMMER UNIVERSIADEThe 23rd Summer Universiade in Izmir, Turkey was a success. A record number of participants – 7,805 from 131 countries – was registered. Among the participating countries almost all EUSA member federa-tions were present. During the Games a total of 18,536 staff worked for the Izmir organiza-tion, with 2,853 directors and 450 sports technical person-nel. 1,283 referees and judges took care of the ten com-pulsory and four optional sports. 59 sports facilities were used as venues and a specially built Athletes’ Village with
