The Year 5 netball team represented the school in a netball tournament at Jumierah Primary School on Thursday. The sun was shining, lots of netball was played and a great amount of fun was had by all - what more could we ask for? Some of the girls have only been training this term and I am very proud of the way in which they pulled together as a team. They tried hard and kept up their fighting spirit throughout the tournament, improving their game as the day went on. It was great to see the progress they made individually and also as a team. I hope the girls will keep up their enthusiasm for netball as we have a star team in the making. A huge well done to all of the girls!

Year 8+9 Netball SES v WellingtonBoth teams had some tough competition in their home matches against Wellington last Monday. Mirabelle and Jessica were awarded players of the match, well done girls. Although both teams did not win their matches they put up a strong fight and the Year 9s scored enough goals to come away with a few additional points. It was also great to see the girls in their new netball kit. !

SES Sports and Actvities BulletinSES 7 v 5 Wellington International
Sharjah were in confident mood following 2 heavy defeats from EC and DC. From the start the forward pack dominated at the break down. Good scrimmaging and lineout ball enabled SES to gain territorial advantage but they failed to capitalize on their possession of the ball. Tight defending from Wellington showed that this was always going to be a tight game but 20 minutes into the game Wellington made a breakthrough and scored in the corner. The conversion however was not successful and in the end proved costly.
The second half again saw Sharjah demonstrate good driving from the lineout and driving forward. It took 5 minutes before Liam ‘dangerous’ Dixon released Josh ‘ supersonic’ Southworth to cut through the Wellington defence and score under the posts. Conversion successful. With 10 minutes to play fatigue was starting to set in the Sharjah camp and a nail biting last 5 minutes was in store. Wellington could sense victory and was camped out on the 5m line. Wellington fought back with strong running but the SES defence time and time again held up the attack. Wellington were denied a try in the corner for a dubious knock on but SES hung on for a great victory. Man of the Match and receiver for the ‘Garrett’s Boot Award’ goes to debutant Jay Robinson for an outstanding performance at full back.

Inter-School Athletics Compeition
There was a fantastic atmosphere with great team spirit at this years Inter-School Competition. We had close to 350 competitors ranging in age from Year 7 to Year 11. Seven schools took part in all the key disciplines from track and field. Throughout the day SES led the way and sealed the deal with some outstanding relay races to finish as the overall winning team; beating all the other schools by over 300 points. Congratulations to all the athletes involved and a special mention goes out to our Year 10 and Year 11 Sports Leaders and Assistant Organizers who ran the event.

SES Sports and Actvities BulletinAH, THOSE GENTLE REMINDERS ‘AGAIN’ !
PE Kit – Please make every effort to ensure that you pack all of your PE kit,
including white socks for every lesson. Bring a small towel, water bottle and roll-on deodorant. No spray cans please. We do have a small selection of ‘unattractive and totally un-cool’ spare kit that we will issue to anyone who forgets to bring kit. You have been warned!
Water Bottles – Please remember to bring a water bottle to PE Lessons and after school clubs. It is getting hot again outside so water bottles are essential to avoid dehydration.
Injury and/or sickness – We encourage all students to be involved in every PE lesson, therefore if for whatever reason your son/daughter is unable to participate in PE we would expect a note of explanation to be handed to the teacher before the start of the lesson. Any student unable to participate in the practical aspect of the lesson should still bring PE kit as they will be expected to take on a less physically demanding role such as referee or coach.
Lost Property – If you leave something in the PE Dept then there is a good chance it will end up in the lost property basket. This is emptied at the beginning of every week and taken to the nurses’ room in the Primary school. Please do not bring anything of value into school.
If you need to contact the PE Dept staff for any reason here’s how:
Miss Welsh (HOD/Senior Girls PE) [email protected] Mrs Garrett (Primary PE Co-ordinator) [email protected] Mrs Southworth (Primary PE/Dance) [email protected] Mr Garrett (Senior Boys PE/GCSE PE) [email protected] Mr Rees (Senior PE) [email protected] OR Leave a message at reception and we will call you back when we have a minute.
