“The most important thing in

communication is hearing

what isn’t said.”

– Peter F. Drucker

To understand the effectiveness of nonverbal communication, the students of Grade 2

watched a ‘Silent Movie’ on Charlie Chaplin in the library.

They understood how important it is to include cues, such as facial expression, eye

movements, gestures, and body orientation, while communicating without speech.

Students were given the opportunity to reflect and discuss their perspective on the same.

Students’ Questions:

Eva Bhuta - Why do they make silent movies?

Parth Yermalkar - Why did silent movies not have colour?

PYP Grade 1 - Guest speaker (Ms. Pari Doshi- Physiotherapist)

Our guest speaker’s lecture was based on our central idea: Increasing awareness of our personal

abilities and interests allows our self-identities to develop.

It was really an inspiring presentation. The guest speaker we invited was Anaya Doshi’s mother, who is

a physiotherapist. She deepened the kids’ understanding about correct posture and how to keep

ourselves fit and healthy.

Though the session was based on our physical, social, and emotional awareness, the children also had a

good understanding of what was causing their problems and how they could help themselves.

Since our kids are entering a new growth phase. I believe we can benefit immediately from the

methods Anaya’s mother suggested to do on our day to day work. The students also learned about

healthy food and exercise. We learned how to keep ourselves fit and happy.

Curriculum Evening

Curriculum Evenings are an important component of the partnership between Parent, and

the School and provide an important opportunity for dialogue and get familiar with the

child’s learning environment.

On 28th July, PYP held a successful Curriculum Evening. It was an opportunity for parents

to meet the teachers, school administration and to get a glimpse of the timetable, routine

and curriculum breakdown of what will be covered throughout the year. The evening

started with the Principal’s address wherein parents were informed about school policies

and rules and then continued in the homerooms where parents were given hand-outs with

a detailed outline of the curriculum. The main focus of the event was academics and

parents got a fantastic occasion to find out how they can support their child at home and

see firsthand the quality education we offer at our school.

Thank you to all those parents who attended the curriculum meeting.

MYP and DP Professional Development Session on Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

A session was held for teachers on how to frame knowledge questions from real-life

situations in TOK. TOK is one of the core components of the Diploma program and aims at

improving critical and high order thinking skills. All subject teachers incorporate TOK in

their teaching. This session was intended to enhance the understanding and

implementation of TOK in subject classes. It further enabled the teachers to exchange

successful classroom practices of incorporating TOK in their teaching.

Teachers discussed a number of real life situations, identified the knowledge claims being

made in them, and discussed the issues they had with the claim, wrote some initial

questions and then refined them to formulate knowledge questions. A number of real life

situations on self-driving cars, on the ever evolving theories of the universe, the social

stigma associated with being left handed etc were discussed.

The session was conducted by Ms. Shuchi Shukla, Mr. Duke Getonto and

Ms. Rashmi Talreja

MYP and DP Professional Development Session on International Mindedness

Last week, a session was held for teachers on International Mindedness.

One group activity included exploring and evaluating different facets of international

mindedness. The groups debated amongst themselves and chose the nine facets that

the considered to be the most significant and organized them into a diamond 9

structure as shown below.

This was followed by a discussion on how the curriculum could be designed to include

the conceptual frames of:

the role of culture in our lives and the lives of others

the interdependence of natural and human systems on our planet

the role of peace education and conflict resolution in our world

environmental awareness and sustainability

citizenship and service as an expression of individual responsibility
