Bob VellacottFormer West Australian Bob Vellacott has lived in Devonport for 54 of his 75 years, so he can fairly claim to be a genuine “North West Coaster”.The former technical college teacher retired 20 years ago but he’s hardly been idle, continuing with many of the volunteer organisations he joined while still working.Bob helped establish the Tasmania Arboretum at Eugenana, was involved with LandCare and the Devonport Historical Society, and was the longtime President and Chair of the Maritime Museum before it was taken

over by the Devonport City Council. He’s also been an influential force in the running of the Devonport School for Seniors and is currently the Secretary of the Devonport and Surrounds Tourism Association. He certainly doesn’t sit on his hands wondering what to do with his days! In recent years Bob has been assisting the Devonport City Council with their planning of the comprehensive Seniors Week activities and says the Council is to be thoroughly commended for the effort they put into Seniors Week each year.
