DESCRIPTION

The Studio for Interrelated Media 2014-2015 Eventworks Festival team created a book of documentation from the major events we held. I designed and laid out the text and images for our book and Caitlyn Pozerski wrote most of the copy for our event descriptions.

MISSION STATEMENT

Eventworks was founded in 1977 by the Studio for Interrelated Media Department (SIM) at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, a state university in Boston, Massachusetts. The Eventworks Festival, originally a showcase of music, was established on terms of providing spaces for experimental artists, harboring safe experimental environments, and bridging gaps between MassArt and the local community.

The 2014-2015 eventworks team embraces these values today. Our goals are to invite, incite, and celebrate the collaboration of multimedia, interdisciplinary artists inside our community and others. The benefits of serving as a vessel to fellow creators and thinkers has been nothing shy of audacious. We are thankful for the generous opportunities, relationships, and knowledge the artists have provided us throughout these experiences.

LUKE DILLONHailing from both Colorado and Utah, Luke Dillon seeks common understanding through his work. He has steadily immersed himself in percussive practice for over fifteen years, and continues to develop his understanding of sound and its various properties through composition, production, performance and sculpture. At the age of fourteen, Luke took on an apprenticeship as an ornamental blacksmith. His work was commissioned and sold; and in 2007, recognized by the National Young Arts Foundation. Considering himself as much an opportunist as an artist, Luke seeks cathartic exchange through collabora-tion. He finds interest in human projection and our physiological interaction with the world. Luke attends the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA and is enrolled as a double major in Sculpture and Studio for Interrelated Media.

ALEX NALLYAlexander Armand Ribeiro Nally is a Junior in the Studio for Interrelated Media program at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, Massachusetts. Their creative focus considers the intersections of applied design, social practice, civic engagement, social justice and technology. Through visual and applied design, Alex fosters educational awareness to issues of adversity and discrimination. In their fine art work, they use light and installation to create subtle social interventions in existing spaces to educate and build community on various topics.

Beyond their creative work, Alex is involved in MassArt’s Student Government Association, the Student Advisory Council to the State Board of Higher Education, the Public Higher Education Network of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth.

CAITLYN POZERSKICaitlyn Pozerski is a multimedia artist who specializes in event planning, video and sound installa-tion, audio engineering, and performance. Her back-ground is well versed in communications, live audio mixing, and music performance which are the founda-tion for her developing projects. Pozerski’s recent works have explored the world of vibro-acoustics, the effect of sound waves on the mind and body. Using sound as a medium she creates immersive environments that trigger brain waves ranging from beta to delta. Pozerski attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design and received her BFA in 2015.

POLINA PROTSENKOA double major in Studio for Interrelated Media and Art Education, Polina Protsenko attempts to provoke a sense of ownership through social engagement so viewers get a chance to become participants in collaborative experiences. Through installations, productions, and site specific work as a source for civic intervention, she deconstructs the value of actions to build awareness of self reflection and its importance.

In her own realization while trying to pause and capture the attention of others, she developed a form of documentation through introspection. A mutual trust and a belief in valuing components of community evolves when stimulating different sensations of one’s own placement in time. She, the autonomous agent, hopes to reach a level of immersion through her work by inflicting a reaction within a setting. She values interactions made by coming together to create moments. And to exchange moments.

OVER 100 IN ATTENDANCENearing the end of 2014, Eventworks closed the year with a Hip-Hop show. This was a collection of Boston-based underground artists, SIM alumni, and MassArt students. Our goal was to provide a safe, high-tech produced environment in order to honor the hard work and determination these individuals have done for many years. Bringing the hidden gems of the city together with our own campus provided a sharing of cultures, music, poetry, and community.

OVER 100 IN ATTENDANCEWAVE was a collaboration between Ben Bigelow’s Sound Installation class at MassArt, current students, KeyTar Bear, and SIM alumni. The main question after we conceived the concept of the show was how do we orchestrate sound-based works without them overlapping or being missed by our audience? The solution we generated from many brainstorming sessions was an audio-based tour with programs. Before the event, we recorded artists’ bios and concept descriptions of the work. We then put these recordings on our Soundcloud soundcloud.com/eventworkssim for guests to listen to prior to or after the event. During WAVE we choreographed durational pieces, video works, performance, and music performances so that every piece could be experienced twice.

OVER 130 IN ATTENDANCEFor the Eventworks Festival and our last event of the year we collaborated with Elaine Thap. Thap is a performance artist in the SIM program and an event curator. She is a major part of the larger performance art community of Boston. Through her connections with Mobius in Boston mobius.org, and other resources, she collected artists from the local Boston area and from Washington, DC. Transient Vessels confronted gentrification, segregation, and the inherent transfer of bodies between these specific locations. Using sound, video projection, light, sculpture, objects, and performance these artists commented on power and privilege through gender and class.
