Proposed project title: Compare and contrast a stop motion animation

Section One: Title, objective, responsibilities

Title or working title of project (in the form of a question, commission or

design brief) Compare and contrast a stop animation with a cartoon of your choice. For

example Wallace and gromit with the Simpsons. Project objectives (eg, what is the question you want to answer? What

do you want to learn how to do? What do you want to find out?): I have to try compare to different types of cartoons, and I want to try and learn

how to use skills to compare to different things, I also want to find out more information about the two cartoons while I do the project.

If it is a group project, what will your responsibilities be? This project is a individual project, where I have to use my own individual time,

and balance my time and try complete the work to the best of my ability during the weeks given.

Section Two: Reasons for choosing this project

Reasons for choosing the project (eg, links to other subjects you are

studying, personal interest, future plans, knowledge/skills you want to improve, why the topic is important)

I chosse this task because I enjoy watching both cartoons, also I Study Photography which some how links to this because they are both creative and

artistic, this topic is important because if I’d like to get a diploma I’m going to have to complete this task.

Section Three: Activities and timescales

Activities to be carried out during the project (eg

research, development and analysis of ideas, writing, data collection, numerical analysis, rehearsal techniques, production meetings,

Dear Year 10 student

You have been asked to submit another project or improve your existing project because:

EITHER You did not submit a project

OR You were not given a project to do (Media students)

OR The project you submitted did not pass. The Foundation Project is an essential part of the Creative and Media

Diploma qualification so it is important that you complete it.

You have until Friday 1st April to complete this project and hand it in to Ms. A in the Drama office for marking. There will be no opportunity to improve your mark after this time. Your mark will be sent to EdExcel and added to your other

Diploma grades.

Good luck!

As part of your Creative and Media Diploma you will produce a 'Project'. This must be done in your own time. The project is a 'stand alone' qualification

in its own right but without it you can not pass your Creative and Media Diploma. You need to choose one of the following questions to base your project

on. You can choose to create a written report either as an illustrated essay format, power point or publisher document. The project must be completed in your own time and the final draft is due before the Spring half term.

Do not leave it to the last minute, you should be continually working on this and

handing drafts in to be marked and handed back with ways to improve. You must spend at least 20 hours n this task. Use the timeline to help you plan and complete the project.

Choose one of the following...

1.

• How did Tim Burton direct and produce The Corpse Bride'?

• What is the Corpse about? Any hidden meanings? • What are the characters like, what do they look like, how were they

made? • How do the characters in the film interact with one another

• What input did Tim Burton have on the animation. • Write a review of the animated film discussing what you and others think

of the film

2.

How would you plan, direct and produce an animation of another poem by a writer of your choice?

• Find a poem that inspires you

• Think about what process you would go though? • What would you want the animation to look like?

• What materials would you use? • How would you construct your set? • Write and storyboard the first two scenes of your animation.

3.

Compare and contrast a stop motion animation with a cartoon of your choice. For example Wallace and Gromit with The Simpsons.

• Pick a cartoon and an animation that inspires and interests you.

• Research both looking for pictures and information. • Find out information on how they were made and what technology they

used. • Think of similarities and differences. This could be the style, colour, theme

etc and use images to explain your thoughts.

• Create a presentation that could be aimed at other year 9 student's which shows your findings and opinions.

You could decide to present your project as a mood board, make a model, produce a painting or any other creative way. Make sure you discuss with one of

the Art team to confirm this.

These are just guides of the things you could think about, research and include in your projects, but there are other things you could also think

about. ..

So how will I do this? What you must include in your written report: Week 1...

Research the theme by doing as many of the following as you can... • Background reading; e.g. Ofnewspaper articles, books, websites.

• Observations made by you in a museum, workplace or in a theatre. • Investigations of media, materials, processes, technology. • Conversation with us (your teachers) or interviews with professional who

are experts in the specific topic. • Research though watching videos or interviews on the radio.

• To challenge your learners use a range of types of source (i.e. not just websites)

Make an Action Plan (a plan of what you want to do and how you want to do it) no more than 5 points which can be ticked off when completed.

Draw a mind map of all the things you need to discuss in your project and your

initial thoughts. Find at least 5 images (For a higher mark draw some of these images yourself to

a high standard.)

Week 2... Start to write the main body of your project in your OWN words.

• Write information about the theme in your own words.

• Write down your thoughts, ideas and opinions on the theme as your going • along.

At least 1 diagram or sketch of the ideas in your head annotated with your thoughts.

Short questionnaire. Write a couple of questions about your project (What

people think of the poem? How they visualise it? How would they like to see the poem animated) and ask a few people, family and friends to fill it in for you.

Week 3... Use the findings of your questionnaire to present a graph, chart, excel, written,

etc and labelled, discuss how you are going to use this information in your project.

Does it change your mind on how you are going to do things?

A list of references (the names of the books, magazines and internet sites you have been on) at the back of your report

Throughout... Activity Log - a reflective record of the process you have gone through to create

your written report. This must include:

• What you have done towards your project that week? • What kinds of things have you been thinking/discussing?

• Have you made any changes to your action plan? • What resources have you found?

• What problems have you encountered and how are you going to resolve it?

• What are you going to do next?
