    Fun factor 86 Nm. The engine.Instantaneous power.The Parallel Twin tted to the BMW F 800 S and ST is ournew high-tech, middleweight power plant. With a capacityof 798 cc, it delivers terri c punch right across the revrange. During development, our engineers didnt seek toachieve as high a revving engine as they could, but tomake the motorcycle as easy to control and ride as possible.As a result, fully 90% of the maximum torque of 86 Nm(at 5,800 rpm) is available from 5,000 rpm, while 62.5 kW(85 hp) ensures that all the excitement is transmitteddirectly to the road.

    Good question: why?Through the long stroke design of the engine, exception-ally smooth torque delivery allows the rider to easily skipgears if desired. The high-performance cylinder headmeans the engine remains agile and responsive well intothe upper rev range during sports-style riding. Rockerarms derived from Formula 1 technology play an importantpart in this, operating the two-cylinder engines eightvalves. This reduces friction to a minimum, while boostingrpm stability to its maximum.

    The low moving mass and the stiffness of the valve trainexpose individual components to lower stresses, meaningthe BMW F 800 S and ST offer exceptionally low petrolconsumption levels and impressive torque characteristic,while being extremely reliable. Dry sump lubrication ensuresoptimum oil supply in all riding situations and leads to are-duction in the overall dimensions of the engine. The oiltank is located in the oil pan, which is sealed completelyto the crankcase, meaning a separate oil tank is not neces-sary. As seen in the 1200 Series, the narrow width of theengine makes it possible to position the water pump to theright side of the cylinder head, reducing the number of short radiator hoses required.

    For inexperienced riders, a reduction in engine power canbe provided at no extra cost, achieved by way of a reducedthrottle valve opening angle, so that the bike then outputs25 kW (34 hp) at 7,000 rpm and 55 Nm at 3,500 rpm.

    Truly entertaining.Conventional telescopic forks with a diameter of 43 mmand 140 mm of travel look after front wheel guidance,suspension, damping and anti-dive control. High overlayof the stanchions and fork sliders gives a high level of stiffness and ensures outstanding roadholding, while thesteering damper offers maximum stability, even duringsports-style riding. The aluminium Delta Box frame usedin the F 800 S and ST is extremely torsion-resistant and isresponsible for the motorcycles precise, yet exhilaratinghandling.

    A leader amongst bikes.The engine is the fundamental strength of the F 800 Sand ST. It accommodates an aluminium swinging armwhich, in combination with the low-maintenance beltdrive, is unique in this segment. The wide design of theeccentric rear wheel mounting ensures that the wheelis always held in the correct position lengthways. Fitting

    and removing the rear wheel is quick and simple, as istightening the belt, and the fact that the belt drive andswinging arm complement each other so well leavesyou free to concentrate on riding.

    Easy access is provided to the handwheel, used to set thespring preload of the directly-linked single suspensionstrut, while adjusting the struts rebound damping is justas easy and can be performed without using any tools,meaning the machine can be quickly adapted to a varietyof load conditions.

    Fun to the power of two. F 800 S and F 800 ST.For those who enjoy taking their machine for longer

    journeys, the F 800 ST offers an attractive alternativeto the F 800 S. It comes with a high windshield and fullfairing, for better protection from the wind and rain. Withits raised handlebars, the machines ergonomics are alsomuch better suited to touring, whilst its large aluminiumluggage rack offers extra space for your bags. The appear-ance of the wheels has also been redesigned to suitthe look of the F 800 ST.

    The standard seat on the F 800 S and ST stands 820 mmoff the ground with a step length of 1,810 mm, makingthe motorcycles ideal for riders over 1.70 m, while alowered seat of 790 mm and step length of 1,750 mmis also available. All motorcycle riders know that the widerthe seat, particularly toward the front, the harder it is toget your feet on the ground whatever the seat height.As a result, the seat of the F 800 S and ST has beenoptimized for step length so that it is markedly slimmertowards the front, giving more freedom of movementfor sports-style riding and making it easier to touch the

    ground when stationary. However, the rear of the seat isbroader, for increased comfort. The sitting position onthe BMW F 800 S and ST is suitable for both smallerand larger riders. The ergonomic triangle formed bythe footrests, seat and handlebars is designed to givecomfortable and relaxing sports-style riding. Despiteits sportily compact dimensions, the F 800 S offerslevels of wind protection that put it at the very top of its class, and with its full fairing, the F 800 ST boastseven greater wind protection.

    Because you want to ride. Not wait.In the new BMW F 800 S and ST, a low-maintenancetoothed belt drive is employed as a nal drive, transmit -ting the power of the engine to the rear wheel. The belthas been developed from new, is especially wide andoffers a particularly long service life. Once the correcttension has been set during initial inspection, it doesnot need to be changed until its time to replace thebelt. Because the toothed belt is constantly tensed,any potential load change reaction is minimized, whichis an additional advantage compared to traditional chaindrives. At the rear wheel, the toothed belt runs over astainless steel belt wheel into which is integrated a four-part, asymmetrical damper, further minimising any loadchange reaction.

    Pull up. Just to get your breath back.A front braking system consisting of two 320-mm diam-eter brake discs plus high-grade, 4-piston hydraulicallyactivated oating brake calipers, equipped with extremelyhard-wearing sintered metal coatings, ensures precisioncontrol of the BMW F 800 S/ST when stopping. Alongsidethis, the foot brake is connected to a 265-mm rear brakedisc featuring a precise single-piston oating brake caliperthat is the last word in reliability. As well as looking great,steel ex brake hoses tted as standard ensure constantlystable braking pressure, and for an even safer ride, you canchoose to opt for the latest version of BMW Motorrad ABS.Weighing a mere 1.5 kg, it features linearly adjustable inletvalves for less brake lever and pedal vibration.
