Mobile OES Spectrometer
for Demanding Onsite
Metal Analysis Tasks
Comprehensible but Versatile
Software
The extremely versatile SPECTRO
Spark Analyzer ME (Mobile Edition)
instrument software remains a
simple-to-use interface to the
spectrometer. In addition to the
precise analysis of the chemical
composition, it also offers the ability
to identify the material and to quickly
sort numerous samples for a match
with a reference sample. An extensive
control system, with hardware and
software-based diagnostic functions
ensures that the instrument always
operates faultlessly. Changes or
extensions to the analytical programs
are simple to perform with the
SPECTROTEST – even at a later date
at the customer site.
Fingerprinting and Automatic
Program Selection
A new “fingerprint” method
revolutionizes analysis with arc
excitation. During “Fingerprinting”,
the measured spectrum is compared
to the spectra of reference samples in
multiple bases (option for Fe, Al, Cu,
Ni, Co and Ti bases) at the beginning
of the measurement. The
measurement is then continued with
measuring parameters optimized for
the reference sample method chosen
by the SPECTROTEST. The
concentrations of the unknown
sample are calculated with the stored
calibration data. Errors due to
incorrect evaluation of the material by
the operator are eliminated and the
accuracy of the testing improved.
The Automatic Program Finding (APF
Plus) module for analysis with spark
excitation is similarly efficient, user
friendly and error reducing like
Fingerprinting with arc excitation. The
base material is recognized and then
the required analytical program is
loaded.
SPECTROTEST: Software
Organization and documentation of the stored
measurement results takes place in the ResultManager.

changed without tools.
SPECTROTEST
The SPECTROTEST is a high
power universal metal
analyzer for use in the metal
producing, metal processing
and metal recycling
industries. This instrument
can be used cordlessly with
the rechargeable battery pack
in difficult to reach places, for
the analysis of small parts,
thin wires, curved surfaces or
concealed welding seams. It
can be found in action at an
arc-furnace platform in a steel
mill, during use for the final
inspection of goods in a
production operation or the
identification and analysis of
a wide range of metal types
and alloys at the scrap yard.
With its innovative technology,
the SPECTROTEST is up to the
challenge of each of these
assignments.
Its heart consists of the
plasma generator, special
optic, new high performance
readout system and ICAL logic
system; all innovative
components that make the
SPECTROTEST more precise,
simpler and more reliable.
Through combination with
other high-quality components,
the SPECTROTEST remains
the most powerful
spectrometer of its class.

SPECTROTEST: Analysis
Simple Operation
The secure base, as well as easy
movement and steering of the
instrument are important features for
straightforward handling and fatigue-
free operation. The transport trolley
was designed as a single unit with the
instrument. The ergonomic design
permits an ideal working height and
enables operation without fatigue. If
necessary, the trolley can be
disassembled quickly.
The newly developed probe is
especially light and easy to use. With
its much thinner form, compared to
earlier versions, it is easier to reach
samples that are behind other pieces,
like bundled materials or seams, for
example.
Results within Seconds
To perform a measurement, the
sample probe is held to the sample
and the start button is pressed. The
results are available within a few
seconds. The standard probe is used
both for sorting and identification with
an arc source and also for analysis
with a spark source – optionally
including the element carbon. The
change from arc to spark mode and
vice versa can be performed rapidly
and easily without tools.
High-Tech for Precise Analysis
The new SPECTRO Plasma Generator
is the first completely digital
excitation system for spark emission
spectrometers. The energy in the
plasma is defined and held constant,
drastically reducing the negative
effects of conventional excitation
technology and markedly improving
the precision, reproducibility and
measuring speed. The special optic in
the SPECTROTEST maps the entire
relevant wavelength range and
distinguishes itself through
exceptional precision, stability and
robustness.
A complete analysis for all of the elements
required is conducted and displayed within
seconds – with supplemental information
about the tested material if desired.
Equipped with the scrubbing system,
the SPECTROTEST is even able to
measure carbon with arc excitation.
This is achieved with a compact
construction developed especially for
mobile use. The optical components,
such as the holographic grating and
CCD detectors, are completely
integrated, protecting them from dust
and shock. The powerful new readout
system processes the accumulated
data simultaneously and fifty times
faster than previous systems;
decidedly contributing to the
improved analytical performance of
the SPECTROTEST.
The proven ICAL (Intelligent
Calibration Logic) logic system
monitors the proper state of the
measurement system independently
from external influences. This
eliminates the time-consuming
recalibration of the spectrometer.
Instead, a single control sample is
measured.

Standard probe and optional UV
probe (suited to the analysis of
N, C, P, S, Sn, B) can be attached
in a matter of seconds.
The new sample probe is extremely thin,
light and easy to handle. The efficient
cooling enables continuous operation for
high throughput demands.
Additional adapters are available for
the analysis of tubes, wires and small
parts as well as other unusual forms.
These are simply attached to the
probe instead of the standard adapter.
Cordless Operation
An efficient excitation in connection
with other measures leads to low
power consumption. The
SPECTROTEST can be operated
independently from the mains supply
with an optional rechargeable battery
pack. It is sufficient for several
hundred sparks and is simply placed
in the holder provided for it on the
transport trolley. This cordless
operation makes use in almost any
location possible.
SPECTROTEST: Accessories
SPECTROTEST
– Unequaled emission spectrometer-accuracy for
many different metal alloys using unique high-
tech components for excitation and detection
– Shortest analytical times: 3 s in sorting mode
and from 5 s in the analytical mode
– Carbon measurement in low alloy steel
with arc in air
– Determination of nitrogen in duplex steels
– Simple, convenient and safe operation
– High mobility, immediately ready for
measurements – anywhere
– Flexible use through comprehensive elementselection – extendable at any time
Analytical Options
With the scrubbing system, the
SPECTROTEST is, when arc excitation
is being used, able to measure carbon
beginning at 500 ppm. This makes it
possible to rapidly identify materials
in air using the carbon content for
low alloy steel. The special probe
with integrated UV optic is used when
elements such as phosphorous,
sulfur, boron or tin are required for
material identification. Even the
determination of nitrogen for the
identification of duplex steels is no
obstacle for the SPECTROTEST.
Quickly changing from the standard
probe to the UV probe is no problem
with the plug-in connector.
