Impairment and the Medical Professional
• 10-15% experience problems with alcohol, other drugs, or mental illness at some time during their lives.
• Studies among U.S. physicians have concluded that impairment of functioning due to chemical dependence alone affects from 8-12% (expected that prevalence is similar for other health care providers)
