    2. Lack of Faith

    3. Worldliness

    4. Compromise

  • Genesis 13:18 - Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built an

    altar to the Lord.

  • Romans 1:18 - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the

    truth in unrighteousness.

  • Romans 1:28-32 - And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a

depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant,

boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving,

unmerciful; and, although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty

approval to those who practice them.

  • In the Bible, war is used as an analogy

of the struggle of good against evil,

spirit against flesh and Christ against

    anti-Christ.

  • II Corinthians 10:3-5 - For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh,

but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and

every lofting thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

  • B. Victory over vindication

  • Those who choose the pleasures of the

world soon begin to feel its pains.

  • C. Triumph over tyranny

  • I John 5:4 - For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory

that has overcome the world— our faith.

  • D. Grace over greed

  • Testing comes after victory.

  • Genesis 14:23 - that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, lest you

should say,' I have made Abram rich.'

  • Melchizidek’s interview with Abram

    presents an image of Christ.

    • He was priest of the Most High God as well as King of Salem. (18)

➡ Christ fulfilled the offices of prophet, priest and king.

    • Melchizidek refreshed Abram with bread and wine. (18)

➡ Christ refreshes his people spiritually with the Lord’s Supper.

  • Melchizidek’s interview with Abram

    presents an image of Christ.

    • Melchizidek blessed Abram and then blessed the Most High God. (19-20)

➡ We have been given every spiritual blessing in Christ as well as Christ’s blessings in the Beatitudes.

    • Abram paid Melchizidek tithes of all that he had after the battle. (20, Hebrews 7:4)

➡ Christ accepted the various gifts offered to Him as well as the accompanying worship of the giver.

  • II Corinthians 9:6-8 - But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have

an abundance for every good work.

  • Hebrews 7:3 - Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of

days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he abides a priest perpetually.

  • Psalm 31:24 - Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who

    hope in the Lord.

  • I Corinthians 16:13-14 - Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be

    strong. Do everything in love.
