What’s in a will? Why do you need a will? Have you been named as a personal representative of an estate for a relative or friend? Come out, ask questions and receive answers on the following topics:

• types of wills• what to put in your will• what happens if you die

without a will

• a brief overview of guardianship/trusteeship and choosing an executor

• where to start as an executor• inventorying assets, creditors,

insurance, expenses, codicils, Surrogate Court, distribution of monies,

• whether or not to charge for your services and final settlement.

Planning for disability or death is never pleasant. Most people recognize the importance of preparing a will to cover the transfer of their estate after their death. But what if you become mentally incompetent prior to death? It is important to identify what you want done when something like this happens to you and help those around you carry out your wishes. An Enduring Power of Attorney and

a Personal Directive are basic to building your plan. With them you can set out:• who will handle your financial

affairs and how, if you become mentally incompetent

• how you want your assets to be dealt with prior to your death

• if you become mentally incompetent, who will handle your medical and other personal life decisions and the kinds of choices they can make for you.

You will learn about these basic legal tools and what’s involved in acquiring them.

Registration: Pre-course registration is essential. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis. It is recommended that you register early to avoid the disappointment of a class being filled.

Fees: Fees must be paid at the time of registration. Look for our early bird registration fee which will enable you to save money. Both fees are listed with the course description.

Class Cancellations: Community Programs reserves the right to cancel courses when the enrollment is too low to make the course feasible. Participants who have registered in courses will be given a full refund of fees paid, or may transfer fees in the same term. Please allow four to six weeks for cheques to be processed after course cancellation.

Refunds: Students withdrawing from a course must give at least two working days notice

before course commencement in order to receive a refund. All refunds requested by a student are levied a 15% administration fee. Refunds will be mailed. Please allow four to six weeks for processing.

Transfer: Students requesting a transfer from one class to another will be charged a 10% administration fee, provided it is done before classes start. Transfers will not be allowed once classes have begun.
