W here does the time go? It seems like only weeks ago summer camp was still in full- swing but the reality is, Thanksgiv- ing has already come and gone! Camp Chamisall has a lot to be thankful for this year. Not only did we have a record-breaking number of campers this summer (673), we also had a record number of staff serve (243)! For those of you who took the time to serve out at camp this summer, no matter what your role, thank you for giving up a week of your “city life” to come out to Chamisall. You were an important part of chal- lenging students to follow Christ in a safe and caring environment. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like a sacrifice to go out to camp – in fact, we had 11 staff who served for 2 weeks – but for some of you, it meant giving up a week of your hard-earned vacation time and time you could’ve spent with family. That’s a huge sacrifice! But it’s all worth it. Brad Carter, who is Director for Week 4, shares this story: “Just a few days prior to Week 4, we had a parent who was planning to drive out to camp each day to help care for his daughter who has severe diabetes and would need monitoring through the night. We were short staffed, so I asked the parent if he would just stay at camp all week to watch his daughter but also help on our Program team. He agreed. He was a great addi- tion to the team, and even led a young man to Christ on Wednesday night! In addi- tion, he prayed with another camp- er who wanted to recommit his life to following Christ. As God would have planned, both campers are stu- dents in the school that he teaches at. This may just be the relationship these two campers need to continue to grow in their faith and live for Christ in their school.” Over the whole summer, 31 campers gave their life to Christ for the first time. Wow! As we come to terms with the fresh snow and the reality that another season is upon us, let’s remember to pray for those summer commit- ments to Christ made at camp to continue to be strengthened through church connections this fall and throughout the winter. summer camp was still in full-swing but the reality is, Thanksgiv-ing has already come and gone!

You were an important part of chal-lenging students to follow Christ in a safe and caring environment. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like a sacrifice to go out to camp – in fact,

we had 11 staff who served for 2 weeks – but for some of you, it meant giving up a week of your hard-earned vacation time and time you could’ve spent with family. That’s a

huge sacrifice! But it’s all worth it. Brad Carter, who is Director for Week 4, shares this story:

Time to Raise the Roof! Many thanks to a group of 10 volunteers from First Alliance, Springbank Community, Foothills Alliance and Cochrane Alliance Church who came out to Chamisall and worked very hard along side 3 Weathergaurd Met-als employees to get most of the lodge roof replaced October 12-14. Having volunteers work alongside the professional roofers saved the camp thousands of dollars! A big thank you also goes to South-view Alliance Church for the generous donation that finan-cially enabled this project. The new

metal roof was much needed and will serve the ministry of the camp for decades to come. There is still some roofing on the lodge to com-plete and then the detailed finishing work will be finished by contrac-tors. The wash house building is also ready to be roofed and we plan to have it completed before the winter settles in. Pray for a week of good weather so the present snow will melt and the remaining work can take place. - Brad Carter

Offering Project Update This summer, camp-ers and staff had the opportunity to give back by donating leftover tuck money towards the PATARRA PROJECT through the C&MA Compassion Gift Catalogue,

which provides education mate-rials, vitamin supplements and Spanish Bibles for one Nicaraguan children through the local church. Over the course of the summer, we were able to raise a total of $3927.11, which will provide supplies for 65 children. Thank you!

Openings on the Camp Board We are currently seeking to fill two very important positions on our board: someone to oversee summer programming (coordinating with each week, ordering needed sup-plies, keeping inventory of equip-ment etc.) and another individual to champion fundraising. Those interested would be required to at-tend board meetings once a month from September-June and attend to tasks as needed throughout the summer. If you or someone you know would be passionate and committed to one of these areas, please contact Keith Lihaven [email protected], or Mike Humphries [email protected].

Once again, the It’s Sew Easy group are supporting Camp Chamisall in a tangible way by crafting hand-made quilts, Christ-mas ornaments, clothing and home décor to sell at their annual Christ-mas Craft Sale at First Alliance Church. Get a head start on your stocking stuffers! Cash, debit and credit are accepted.
